Awesome. Signing BM scared me more than any other potential FA signing we've had in a long time.

  4. Landry is being courted by Patriots all this weekend.

W/ the releasing of Alexander & Poole signing elsewhere, that leaves Eric Smith & Tracy Wilson as the only safeties left on the roster.

Now Jets are basically forced to overpay for Reggie nelson and/or reach for Barron in round 1.

I'm all for being more responsible w/ cap money & free agency. But the Jets needed to act quickly with addressing the safety position. This is about to become a disaster and could screw up the entire offseason. Not a happy camper.

Listen if we sign Reggie Nelson and Draft Barron we would have a pretty serious unit back there... like it or not Tanny is a smart dude and a solid GM ... he has something up his sleeve here..don't panic guys..things will work out

Barron in Rd 1 would be a disaster. I really hope they have something different in mind...

Why do we think its a reach for the Jets on Barron. Do you think a trade up will be required in spite of his recent injury?

Well all this one ended also with ever making to the JETS,

    Redskins sign Brandon Meriweather
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 15, 2012, 1:46 PM EDT

Getty ImagesBrandon Meriweather has found his new home.

The Redskins signed Meriweather to a contract today that Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports is a two-year, $6 million deal.

Meriweather had been scheduled to visit the Jets, but that visit has now been canceled, and the Jets’ pursuit of a new safety will continue. It’s possible that the Jets could sign LaRon Landry, the man Meriweather is essentially replacing in Washington.

Last season Meriweather played 11 games for the Bears and started four. Prior to that he spent four seasons with the Patriots.

  10. If they're too cheap to sign Nelson I'm not sure what option there is except re-sign leonard & pray Dallas doesn't take Barron at # 14.

Again..I'm all for sitting back and paying reasonable money on players. But if they didn't see the urgency in getting an upgrade at safety as quickly as possible, this front office is even more inept than many on here have suggested.

    Completely inexcuseable.

It does look like the options are pretty limited at this point but I just have a feeling that if they take Barron in the 1st they're going to regret the other guys they could have gotten if they weren't so desperate for a safety. Theres still time though...

If we take Barron in the 1st, all of our offseason moves would be a failure... People also forget that there are other safety prospects in the draft, and even better fits for what we are looking for in terms of coverage skills (Trumaine Johnson, George Iloka, Harrison Smith).

  17. Exactly.

Jets desperately needed to add an impact talent w/ the #1 pick. Not only do they not need an impact safety but Barron isn't one anyway. All they need is somebody who can tackle, play in space & not get beat deep. It only makes sense to address such a need in free agency. Now they'll be forced to address that need via the draft and will again miss out on someone w/ greater impact.

    This is complete crap.

I wouldn't mind if the Jets signed Atogwe... I don't get the lack of love. I know he had some injury concerns but shit.

What about Reggie Smith from SF? He’s young and came from a quality defense... not sure how good he is though? Anyone know anything about him?

So I just looked up what his scouting report was coming out of college and he played CB and FS for Oklahoma, so he’s versatile and can cover. He has good speed and great size at 6’1 205... Worth a shot?
