After the Jets and Giants stumbled down the stretch last year, the Jets hiccuping after a 3-0 start this year, if the Yankees lost I would truly be convinced that NY sports are cursed
My main point was that while Mets fans continually gripe about the Yankees and their fans, they're the ones inciting shit by talking massive amounts of shit about us. It's silly and bordering on sad.
it's good to see most of the Yankee fans in this thread basically proving my point........type O started it right off the bat, others followed suit, this is why it's hard to root for the Yanks. nothing to do with the team, envy, jealousy, etc........just mostly (not all mind you, but A LOT) of dumbass arrogant fans that somehow equate the organization's success with their own knowledge of things
Oh lets just call it like it is - Yankees and Mets fans don't like each other and love to antagonize the other one. It is a nice balance, and there is no need to pretend otherwise. You say Mets fans shit-talking caused you to go back at them, but once you sink to their level does it really matter how it started? Once we lose the pretense it makes things much easier.

Phillies. Yankees are boring, and I hate to see a team that operates so completely outside the financial realm of every other team get rewarded simply for being richer. not a better organization, with better scouting, and better player development. just have more money to spend and outspend everyone else. at some point the Yankees will answer the question how many $100 million players it takes to win a World Series, while every other team shows them that it isn't necessary every year before that, I just hope it isn't this year. or next. or ever.

You're the pot calling the kettle black. The Mets have the SECOND highest payroll in all of Major League Baseball, and it's been that way for years. You're not the freakin' Marlins, so you have no right hating on the Yankees for spending too much money. Just because your organization is not as wealthy (albeit still wealthier than most MLB teams) that somehow makes the Yankees big and evil. Please.

I certainly wouldn't expect anyone who felt the same to root for the Mets either. but I want the Mets to win, just like you want the Yanks, so if the Mets win I wouldn't how much they spent, but I'd certainly understand the animosity other fans felt. I'm not so arrogant to think everyone shouldn't care how it affects competition as a whole just because my team benefits from it.

this poll should've been phrased differently, like which team do you hope loses, because it's impossible to root for either. but i've got to go the same way i went in the pats/giants SB. the phillies already have a recent WS win they can crow about even if they lose this year, but if the yankees win this one then mets fans have to hear it from both sides.
As a lifelong Mets fan, I have never had a problem with the the Yankees. It is the Yankee fans that make it tough for me to root for them. Growing up in the 70's and 80's, I was the rare Mets fan in town. That being said, since 9/11, I root for every NY team as long as it does not conflict with my team save the Rangers (the only team to share a division with another NY team). I love having intelligent conversations regarding NY teams, it is the jackasses of the various NY fanbases that make a poll like this pertinent. Phuck Philly...the Yanks winning only forces the Mets to have to compete harder in the best sports market around.
You brought out a good point however seeing the Phillies and the entire city of Philadelphia deflate after failing in the world series might actually be the silver lining in all of this, but then again it isn't much because it still means that the bandwagon Yankee fans will come back from slumber with a vengeance yet again
Why any Mets fan would root for the Phillies over the Yankees is beyond me. I don't get the Yankees hate. Only time I root against them is if they're playing the Mets.
