If Bill Parcells was somehow a guest of Francessas at Jets TC today, they'd be talking football nonstop because Mike would have his nose so far up Parcell's butt it wouldn't be funny.

Then it would be, "Phil Who? Oh yeah, and by the way folks, Phil Rizzuto passed away today. Now Bill, when you were with the Giants, tell us about your relationship with Phil Simms and ba-blah, ba-blah, ba-blah..."

FINALLY, he's talking football now. Interviewining Kerry Rhodes...

Mike: Are you surprised you're a starting safety now or did you think you'd be playing basketball?

    Rhodes: I thought basketball...

Mike: You've done very well , right at the beginning. What has made you so successful?

R: I study the opponents every week... put a lot of time into that..

Mike: What part of your game do you need to work on the most right now?

Rhodes: Personally I want to work on my drive from the backfield...

M: Very few guys who "make the plays"

R: Definitely you have to make the plays. I think I can cover better than most in the league. Mangini commanded our respect right away... we were a smarter team last year... no team came in and surprosed us last year.

    M: What about NE?

R: They have enough talent... not surprised tey have all that talent... a lot of targets for Brady. On Moss: definitely got to watch him. Just basically we want to come out and do better than last year. We know what to expect and just go and do it..

M: Do you think of yourself as an NFL "star?"

R: You have to believe that, I just work hard and think I am among the best.

    Went to break now......

  4. Thank god they switched to football(I dont even care if it's jets or not at this point). I can only take so much of the old times baseball talks w/ the corny jokes and lame road stories

Mike: "We're here at Jets camp... exceedingly long 2 1/2 hour practice today until about 4:30"

    Now he's on Rizzuto again...

Okay, now he says he'll be back with the Jets after this next break...

anyone hating on the rizzuto sports talk today is completely heartless. the man touched so many people for so many years, and today he passed away. you are honestly bitching about reminiscing for a few hours? give me a break.

Nike: We're back now with L. Coles.. You'bve been a very dconsistant player.

Coles: Been fortunate to have good QBs.. a lot of other guys around me to command attention too. My more productive years have been with Chad...

M: Last year, (says his stats), where you happy with last year?

C: Never happy... want to improve year upon year... alwyas looking to improve

M: Very close numbers every year, same numbers

C: I pride myself on being consistent,, try to be dependable on the field all the time. You have to play banged up... Mangini keeps guys like me around,, he knows when Sunday comes, I can be there and be productive. talking about Schottenheimer.. how he makes it easier.

Mike: I don't want to jinx you but wehn was the last time you missed a game?

C: Not since my rookie year... I surround myself with good people, I don';t do anything special, but I fell like I live with stuff becasue once the seson is over I have plenty of time to rest up.

Mike: This is a hard working team... real serious group here, right?

C: I think one thing we can say is every game, you can't say we wasn't prepared.. in the weitght room, we prepare.

    M: Enjoy Washington?

C: There a big time group and I enjoyed it, and some of the best fans, buyt the NY fans are the greatest... and I'm glad I'm back

    Mike goes to break now...

    Mike with Vilma now...

    Mike: Long practice huh?

    Vilma: Yeah..

M: not as hot this year though.. but you're a FL guy, so you're used ot it. What are your early impressions this year?

V: Dont' want to make too much of it yet... looking pretty good so far.

M: Talking about the draft or being traded... what's that like, when you hear Vilma would be traded... and your name came up..did you pick up the phone and call your agent?

    V: Don't even pay attention.

M: Do you feel a comfort level now in this system?

V: 2nd year in this system.. light years ahead of last year.

M: does it annoy a sucdcessful player to have the system changed?

V: There's a frustration level, but the frustration doesn't come from the switch, it comes from not being successful.. Youjust gotta be prepared and keep going

M: What was your year like last year?

V: Average. Average for me... what I can do... MY average is what I can do int he system
M: did you see in yourself a lot of improvement last half or 1/4 last year?

V: Yes, I did see improvement... having 11 guys tryig to be better.. look at the Chicago game... playing welll, one completion, guy goes for TD.. game over

M: About Revis... can he catch up?

V: He could still come in and play... depends on what role It's hard though, if you want him to be all things PR, KR, CB etc, I say no... but some of the things, yes

Mike: Expectations ratched up a lot Affect yuou?

V: No, not at all. Teams understood at end of season, we went 6-2 at end, so it's not like we were sneaking up on the end of season

M: NE.. high octane offense . Worried?

V: No... I don't worry about them... doesn't affect me right now.. We'er still 3-4 weeks out from playing them.. not my focus right now.

M: Comfortable with where you are?

V: I want to get the season going andplay against competition

    M: Better team this year?

V: Definitely. Like night and day right now... definitely better team this year...

    Mike goes to break now.....

Mike: We'er with coach MAngini. Wahts the state of the union?

MAngini: We're doing well this year

    Milke: Waht about Jones

MAng: Week to week, but I'm day to day. Mike asks if it is serious injury... Mang says day to day, so Mike says Okay, we're not going anywhere with the cryptic stuff... (laughter)

MAng: on Revis... losing time here

mike: YUou make a concerted effort and he's not here... you trade up

Mang: We targeted for a reason,, he's a good person

    Mike: I'd be frustrated

Mang: We've go 80 ohter guys we're molding ritht now. with any yound guy, some guys can come in and be okay, some guys take time.. he could come in and be okay, but he needs to be in.. There's alot of stuff and adjustments, different defs gong on...

Mike: Can you stroip away some of the mental in order to get him onthe field earlier?

Mang: It'll be working on him learning the DEF and spending a lot of time in makeup

Mike: not many holdouts.. (names them)

    MAng: A small number, yeah

Mike: I don't like preseason to watch... the 1st hald is whaer you feel like it's a real game... Chad didn';t throw a ball... is Chad in a comfortable place ritgt now?

Mang: Chad's got it.. gave us an op to focus on the run and see where we are

Mike: If Chad is som ucha given, does it change the way you run camp this year?

ANg: Gives us an opportunity to see Brad and Kellen and others.

Mike: Is ther a time when Chad can actually run the game?

Mang: I think there is an opportunity... If he has an understanding

    Mike: Asking about Brick..

Mang: Working in weight room... eating.. great offseason... Isee a combination of maturity on and off the field... focusing on targeted areas... working with Lomas and films and technique

Mike: Asking about Kendall now.. dorm stuff...

Mang: I wish it was tryue that we don't make mistakes... Mike keeps pushing on Kendall and Mang keeps dancing away from it ... we're assessing him in both postitions and we're please with the work he's been doing

    Mike: Unhappy player... vocal

MAng: Business side... not unique.. part of what we deal with What I'm working on is the football side.. on what's inportant

Maik: Cotherery...going to a different level?

Mang: I think he made a quantum leap last year even. Very impressive in the way he's debveloping,,, the chemistry with Chad..

ike: If a guy has a great game is that more important than a good [ractice?

Mang: I'm looking for th full body of work.. some are great practice players, go to stadium and it';s not the same guy... you want to see both elements.. nice to see Sean's (Ryans) performance. Kellen's command of the huddle really good, situational awaremess, this is encouraging

    Mike: Why Jerry Rice?

MAng: We respect the work, his professionalism, how wimpoprtant his role was.. no vacations for 10 years.. etc. very constistnet with the way he plays and practices.

Tannenbaum told Mike F that he thinks the Revis will be signed today or tomorrow. He thinks there was significant progress, the agent is in the building and it should be all resolved.

I had to leave unexpectedly fellas, sorry for not finishing the interview.

But yeah, Tanny announced (and Mike F was busting him on it, i.e., take him such and such restaurant and close the deal), that Revis' agent was in the complex and "locked down." We'll see a deal shortly.

That's complete BS. Phil Rizzuto is a New York Icon. That's the top story and it's not even close. On top of that, the Jets practice ran long and the players weren't even available to be interviewed early on.

I cant stand fatcessa, and his interview with Vilma sucked. He is sooo condescending, kept telling JV "you're a smart KID, yu're a bright KID", and proceeds to ask some dumbass questions for the most part.

I was listening to it on the way home from tc, and caught the interview with Rhodes, Coles and JV in the car.

The best part was fatcessa asking Rhodes how Mangini was able to come in last year and turn things around so quickly.

Rhodes said he got their attention and respect, that Mangini knows his football, and that "We were a smarter team last year than we were..."

Realizing it adversely impacted on Edwards' coaching, Rhodes quickly said :We were a SMART team last year"

    LOL

btw, this mets fan has no problem with sports radio being dominated by the passing of the Scooter today. I loved listening to him and Bill White on WPIX growing up.

    RIP

Mike is 52 or so.. Vilma is what, 25? I don't find anything wrong with it... You are taking it out of context.

I mean for you guys bashing Mike Francessa about talking about Rizzuto, I kind of see where you're coming from. But it's not like any Jets player or coach is going to reveal any information other then that they are working hard physically and mentally and all the other Mangini cliche's.
