Probably no way to look this stat up but I would bet over the last 10 seasons the Mets have had the most no hitters go into the 7th inning. deGrom is unreal though. To think he's probably our number 4 next season is scary. Not foolish enough to expect a playoff run but we have a serious amount of games left with the Nats and Braves. Sooner or later the games back margin is going to shrink or grow.
Maybe it's my pessimism, but it will grow. We win an awesome game one night and then get shut-out the next. This offense is hot and cold. Looking forward to our rotation next year and hopefully an OF that can hit. Chris Young was an ABSOLUTE joke of a signing. And Colon is getting paid way too much, even as a stop-gap for Harvey. Get this tub of lard out of here next year to free up some cash. Cept nobody wants him
Yeah you are probably right about the games back margin. The team is way too inconsistent on offense. I still like the Granderson signing even though he needs to be hitting .250 instead of where he's at now. Young is horrible but he'll be gone in the offseason. As for Colon I have zero problem with the signing. He's been mostly solid and will in all likelyhood be traded in the offseason. Simply no place for him here once next years spring training rolls around. He still holds value though. But were two smart signings away from being a contender. That alone is exciting.
Mets lead 3-2, Familia comes in, allows 4 baserunners without recording an out. He was pulled after he allowed a single with first and second (after throwing a wild pitch to tie the game). Lagares bailed him out by gunning down the runner at the plate. Then Edgin bailed the Mets out with one pitch. Giants 7th Jeurys Familia pitching: Hunter Pence :Foul, Ball, Ball, Pence tripled to deep center. Gregor Blanco :Foul, Ball, Strike (foul tip), Foul, Foul, Ball, Foul, Ball, Blanco walked. Buster Posey :Ball, Pence scored, Blanco to second on wild pitch, Ball, Ball, Posey walked. Pablo Sandoval :Ball, Foul, Strike swinging, Ball, Foul, Foul, Foul, Sandoval singled to center, Blanco out at home, Posey to second. Josh Edgin relieved Jeurys Familia. Brandon Belt :Belt grounded into double play shortstop to second to first, Sandoval out at second.
Left Wheeler in one batter too long. We were up 6-1 in the 6th and he walked a guy to make it 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Dom Brown coming up so it would've made sense to go to a lefty with Wheeler at around 110 pitches. Leaves him in and Brown rips a double to make it 6-3. Still keeps him in and Wheeler gets out of it. So at that point Im thinking ok not bad still up 6-3 against the shit Phills. No reason to get nuts. But then the 7th rolls around and the Phils have 2 on 2 out , Vic Black on the mound and Utley coming up. Again perfect time to go to a lefty. Edgin ready at that point. Put the guy in. Instead he leaves Black in and another double. At that point its 6-5 and I know were gonna lose. Edgin finally comes in to strike out Howard to end the inning. He pitches a beautiful 8th where he strikes out the side and Im feeling a little better about things. Meija comes in to close it. I think he still isnt at 100 percent and it shows. Gives up a leadoff double. Then Byrd ties it. He walks Utley to pitch to Howard with 2 outs and even though Im no fan of pulling a closer, Meija is far from proven. Put in Eveland and get to extras. But Collins leaves him in, Howard doubles. Phillies win. The blueprint to beat the Phillies is clear. Their batters cant hit lefties. So Collins goes 0-3 today in perfect situations to use his lefty relievers and blows a game in the process. Wasted day of good offense. Duda would probably hit 40 homers a year if he played in Citizen's Bank. And d'Arnaud just doesnt miss pitches up and in. Even Wright showed signs of life today. All for nothing. And lets all hope that deGrom's MRI comes back clean.
Aaaah crap. Thanks for the recap. Yeah wasn't a Duda fan but he's turned me around. The dude had a huge bat. Love d'Arnaud, so happy he's turned it around since Vegas. _
