did you guys hear what Mussina said?

    stuff in articles yesterday:

    http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/11880285046310.xml&coll=1

DETROIT -- Mike Mussina, coming off two shaky outings, is still scheduled to start for the Yankees on Monday against the Detroit Tigers. But manager Joe Torre left the door open yesterday to making a change -- although the most likely scenario, should Mussina not right himself Monday, would be to skip the following start for extra rest and work.

"If we have to make some adjustments -- certainly we're going to do whatever we can to try to win, let's put it that way," Torre said yesterday after Mussina worked for about 45 minutes on making adjustments. "If it doesn't get better, then we'll have to see if there is something we can do.

"I'm certainly not preparing for it."

Mussina -- 8-9 with a 5.22 ERA -- said Torre brought up to him the possibility of skipping a start, but Mussina scoffed at the idea that he could lost his job as a starter.

"Who are they going to replace me with?" he said.

So Hughes is the latest pretender in Yankee land I see.

    Shut the fuck up Mike.

Clemens is somewhere between a 2 and 3 as you said...

You're somewhere between a 5 and long relief...

    Fucking loser.

    How is he a pretender?
He gave up only 4 hits and 1 walk. It just so happened that those hits were HR's. He fought through his start without his best stuff and yet was still able to keep the Yankees in the game.
He could of just folded up and gave up a few more hr's.
I said it before, these are the type of starts young pitchers need in order to become better pitchers later on.

In regards to replacing Mussina, the rumor is that if Mike fucks up again then Kennedy will get called up to get Moose's next start.
Moose has to realize that Joe has reverted to 96 Mr. Torre and not 02-06 best buddy Joe. You dont play well, you get benched regardless of your name, age and relationship with Joe.

Moose just laid the final straw on the camel's back as far as I'm concerned. Who the hell do you think you are Mike? Your name is not Santana. There are currently AT LEAST 5 starters with the club right now better than you. (Counting Chamberlain as a starter.)

Kennedy will get the callup. At this point I am all but certain of it. Mussina obviously believes nothing is wrong. Fine Mike, keep fooling yourself. I hope you enjoy hitting, because the NL is the only place left for you to finish your career.
    ------------------

On to more pressing business. I'm with Buttle about Hughes today. He showed guts continuing on after some early trouble. Do you realize that after the last homer, the Tigers didn't get another hit all afternoon? It's too bad the ones they got were big ones. Hughes is a keeper.
    ------------------

Now on to Torre. Just when I go out of my way to defend him, he goes out of his way to screw things up.

As I've said before, he doesn't know how to change the lineup. It's feast or famine with him. Fine, Jorge needs to sit the day after a night game. But Jeter and Phillips as well?

Granted, Giambi made no errors, and got wood on the ball, but you just can't shake the lineup up that much and expect to win. Joe's walking proof that "he who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it."

Ah well, it doesn't matter anymore. I know I've been ridiculous with the giving up all year, but at this point, it's all but over. We can't dig out of this anymore. We just aren't "good enough." It's strange to say, since we all know this team is capable at least in terms of talent. It's just not our year.

At least Seattle lost but now to have any realztic shot at the div we'll need to sweep Boston which likely won't happen although we will have our 3 best SPs pitching.

I'm of the theory that the difference in the two schedules down the stretch is the last six games for each. Both have favorable schedules heading home, but Boston closes out with Oakland (2) and Minnesota (4), while New York finishes at Baltimore and Tampa. If the two head-to-head series narrow this thing to small numbers, that last week could be interesting.

well, moose owes Melky a lot. If not for that spectacular catch, it would be at least 4-0 Tigers

I don't know. The division is over IMO. Even if the Yankees come back and win tonight and sweep the Sox, that's still a 4 game lead, and the Yankees have a series with Seattle mixed in with some trash before they play the Sox again, while the Sox get Baltimore twice, TB, and Toronto. That's going to make it hard to pick up much ground there, and another sweep in Boston would still leave them in 2nd place. I just don't see it happening.

wtf are you talking about? He's basically gotten bashed against every good lineup he's faced. One good start against cleveland, and that was when the entire lineup was slumping

you can rely on him for a quality start vs. the royals. against the red sox, tigers, angels, etc.?

    nope

    Relax dude.
Talking about his last 6 starts and talking about him vs Good teams are 2 totally different discussions.

It's obvious you totally missed my point.

he can't be relied on versus good teams. and that's the only point that matters. you can trumpet his appearances against the white sox and royals all you want, but that's not going to restore anyone's confidence in him.

it's obvious that you totally missed what Mussina is all about.

The Yankees look much better when they play Baltimore, Kansas City and Tampa Bay.
