I am extremely impressed with Sheldon, especially since that pick had a lot of us scratching our heads. What excites me is that he's only a rookie. We ain't seen nothing yet.
Cap wise, the rookie deal wouldn't of hampered the Jets cap going forward. It's not like you are paying him 50 million to play G. Even so, paying him a little bit more going forward is more than just solidifying the LG position you are solidifying the offensive line. With a blue-chip player in Warmack - you allow Mangold and Brick to return back to their all-pro playing level, which hasn't happened much this season. You are as strong as your weakest link. I'd take my chances with a "Randy Thomas" then a player that rarely will see the field due to their injury history. We wasted 3 picks on position which is a huge need, they could of solved the issue early - and drafted some skill position players late. Players like Brandon Moore don't come around too often in my opinion. You can't just sit there and wait for something to happen and take chances year after year on project offensive lineman. It's almost no different then Tanny trading picks away, it's a waste.
This is a false choice. If you look at the trade value chart Warford went 65th which is 265 while Winters went 72nd @ 230. Aboushi went 141st @ 35.5 so that would be an equal trade right there. If the Lions would have gone for the fair trade then we would still have Campbell in the 6th so it's a question of one superior guard plus a project versus 3 projects which is a big distinction in your argument. Maybe the Lions wouldn't have been a motivated seller and we would've needed to incentivize them with a premium or tap the Chiefs/Jaguars ahead of them but even in that event it shouldn't cost us our 6th because we have a boatload of draft picks in 2014 and we could've easily thrown in a 7th or 6th if necessary next year when we can afford it. Value speculation aside, I think it's clear that not making something like this happen appears to be a mistake at this moment as it did on draft day. It'll take 3 years to prove fully but I don't see how the analysis changes if Warford doesn't get some career ending injury between now and then. http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php
I've been saying ever since the weed scandal Tyrann Matheiu was going to be the easiest steal in the draft. Cant believe so many teams passed just because he smoked a lil weed in college. Weed isnt going to make 1st round talent into a bust
The experts were stupid. We upgraded our defense and started this season with a better roster than last year. Also, we started the season healthy with the exception of a certain QB. Geno has done as much to hurt this team as he has done to help it, hence the 0.500 record.
He was put in a tough spot, he clearly wasn't ready to play to start the season but he had to and he's done a good job when you factor that in. of course we'd be better if our starter was healthy but Geno is going to be our long term starter and he's learning while playing.
Bradford’s 13-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio is among the best in the league right now, but his 6.2 yards-per-attempt average is the worst of all current starting QBs. He will also need to do a better job at converting on third downs. The Rams currently rank second-to-last ahead of only the Jaguars on third-down conversions. Two words...Sam Bradford
Now enlighten me how that has anything to do with Austin? You signified earlier that Austin's struggles because of Bradford. That's extremely false. Bradford is having the best year of his career. No logic in your theory And you're wrong again. Alex Smith, who's having a GREAT year, and now Mike Glennon, two starting quarterbacks, are worse than Bradford in yards per attempt
Personally, - I am with you on this 100%. Warford was a very popular draft pick in the TGG community. A lot of draftniks here were opposed to taking a guard at 9th overall (even of Warmack's or Cooper's caliber). Warford was an excellent "fallback" option in the early 3rd. When I saw he was there, I was praying we'd go up & get him. The tradeup you proposed makes sense. Granted, its all in hindsight, but again - a lot of us had Warmack on our radar. I'm convinced we unrealistically hoped he would last to 72. Him going at 65 and us drafting Winters convinces me further that I am right. I just think that our tradeups over the past years made us gunshy to pull the trigger on that. I am hopeful for Winters, but again - in hindsight, I would have preferred a sure thing in Warmack & sacrified a 6th rounder in Campbell --- or even the 5th rounder in Oboushi since the tradevalue points work out on that. Hopefully, Campbell becomes another Brandon Moore (converted DL to OG) and Oboushi becomes something.
Its really 2 picks ---- Winters & Oboushi in a tradeup for Warford. We could still have drafted Campbell & hoped for a Brandon Moore.
Raises hand.... me too. I hated the pick especially because I hated the Milliner pick and Geno pick even more. Still would have lked Warmack with our first pick.
Kiko Alonso ..... thats right, from University of Oregon, the college that CAN'T produce NFL players.
4 positive tests and you are a bust. Recreational drug use is something I would hold against any player as long as the severe penalties to their ability to play exist
This was supposed to be a week where Sheldon Richardson was challenged by all those around him. Instead, his rivals failed to make the kind of plays that would prevent him opening up a bigger gap as the Jet cements himself the top rookie from 2013. Outside of him we saw a running back make plays in space, a center continue to prove the doubters wrong, and a safety justify a teams offseason moves. Just another week for the first year guys in our Race for Rookie of the Year. 1. Sheldon Richardson, DE, Jets: +13.1 While others struggled, Richardson once again delivered the goods. He’s our third-ranked 3-4 defensive end on the year with a healthy 18 defensive stops thrown in for good measure. His play against Pittsburgh saw him grade above +2.2 for the fifth time this year. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/10/15/race-for-rookie-of-the-year-week-6-2/
By all reports Warmack is doing bad at Tennessee. Like many of you I always liked Warford. Before the draft I wanted them to get him in the 2nd, but I would rather have Geno. As for trading up for him, yeah I would of loved us to, but who knew that Detroit would take him. Then again, they should've known that it would be tough for him to make it to our pick.
