I call this bullshit but QUESTION! Can McFadden roll out and play Wide Receiver????????????????? We can then have all three on the field
I had made this point a couple of days ago. Darren McFadden has ALL of the skills to split out at WR. That's why this guy would be such a tremendous weapon. He and TJ could line up in the backfield together and then they could put DMC in motion to split out wide. Are you going to stop TJ's run? Or are you going to watch McFadden so he can't burn you? People are hating on McFadden, but the guy is a beast.
Listen, I like Leon but he's a scat back. Jones is 30 and not getting younger. He had a disappointing year last year (maybe because of the o-line, maybe not). We need another option. DMC is a do-it-all kinda guy and his off-field stuff is getting blown out of proportion. Thats like Sapp's alleged weed problems hurt his stock.
I want the Jets to take Gholston at 6 but I admit that McFadden is tempting considering were in desperate need of a playmaker on offense and theres a decent chance that Thomas Jones is an ordinary running back. However, I also want to Gholston to complement our other stars on defense (Rhodes, Revis, Harris, Jenkins, Pace). And I definitely want to see Brady get sacked and knocked down about 20 times next year. Its a real tough call.
McFadden may be tempting but to take him would be a risk considering the Jets have other immediate holes to fill. It's going to be very interesting. I vote Gholston - you never have enough pass rushers - but his stock is rising, he may even go to the Rams. The Cowboys may jump in and offer their two picks for the #6 spot, you never know. What would the Jets do then? I can see them taking the best offensive player available with Dallas's first pick and then drafting Phillips towards the end of the first round. Imagine the middle of the Jets defense then? There's even a slight chance Gholston and McFadden are both gone. What do you do then?
Coming out of the season, I would have originally said to pass on McFadden in favor of players who would hold more value to us as a team. However, with our raiding free agency and Gholston's stock rising to the point where there is a very, very real possibility that he won't be there at #6, I think that if McFadden is there and Gholston's not, you have to take him or trade the pick. Other than his off-the-field stuff, McFadden is just the sort of player Mangini seems to covet; a gadget player with a lot of talent. On top of that, with an NFL training regiment based around beefing up his legs as well as coaching specific to his fumbilitis, he would have everything you'd ever want in a franchise RB. Because of his various skills, he can also line up at WR and even QB. It's undeniable that the guy can be an asset for us. Keep him behind Jones for a year or 2 and then let him loose. Work on Leon's hands, keep him at KR and maybe PR, and find new formations for him as well.
Is there any possibility that Mendenhall is still available at #22? What about CBs Aqib Talib or Mike Jenkins?
oh please, this is posturing so we can trade down. someone will pay us to get the #6 pick and we'll move down a bit and take the guys we really want.
Give me guys early who can take their quarterback down or keep ours standing. I don't diminish the important of skill position, but we stunk this year because we could do neither. And while I know we have addressed some of these issues in FA, I'd prefer to err on the side of caution. Plus, I feel that Stuckey is like a '08 draft pick because he was hurt last year, so let's not forget we have some new talent already coming on board this year.
That's true, I'm looking foward to seeing a healthy Stuckey. I also expect to see the Jets draft an OT pretty early and groom him for '09, maybe even in the second round. I know they've signed Woody but he's not a true tackle, he's more of an interior lineman that can play any position in a pinch. Solid pick-up though.
Two years ago, the Jets inside sources were saying that we were dieing to take Leinart and would do whatever possible to get him. That turned out to be a bunch of bs. So is this. With the Jets spending like crazy this free agency period suggests that the team does not think they are far away from being a very good team. Personally, I believe that the Jets will trade down and why not? If McFadden is there, Jerry Jones will be calling the Jets offering his two first round picks, and with the depth of this draft there is absolutely no reason why they should not accept the deal. Mendenhall, Jonathon Stewart, Aqib Talib are all players that could still be on the board at 22 (the Cowboys first 1st rounder.
Yea I think Id prefer trading down adn taking Mendenhall or Steward along with Talib (or some other highly regarded cornerback) over taking McFadden at 6.
I disagree. You say that like it is fact, but Leon is very much like Westrbrook and Barber and both of them had breakout years in year 3. The fact that this is out there only means that we DO NOT want to take DMC and are trying to increase trade value.
I still am against taking Darren McFaddan. There are plenty of other of RBs in this draft that can play. If a team is calling about want to trade up I'd listen. If they stay put take Gholston
2 months out of the draft and the Daily News thinks they know who the Jets are picking. Pardon me for being skeptical, but it sounds more like a slow news day for the Jets.
