And the latest useless post by Don does just what I expect.

It's good to be able to count on some things.

Remember when we were talking about the defense a while back, and how it was mentioned that they were bad, but also that there was a small sample size? Here's where they are now, a third of the way through the season:

    Not too shabby.

Forget not too shabby. The Yankees have tied the record for consecutive games without an error with 17 straight errorless games. That's incredible if you consider the age of Damon, the loss of a step for Jeter, ARod back from hip surgery, more catchers starting in May than we normally have in a year, and a centerfield situation constantly in flux.

It's very nice to see this team playing great defense. I'd just like to see some more consistent pitching from Hughes, Burnett and the pen.

And how about Teixeira? He really came on in May. I've always been a Tex fan, but even I was getting nervous that we wasted too much on him.

I'm sure the errorless streak has played a role in the UZR improvement, but the errors only tell one part of the defensive story. You can't make an error on a ball you can't get to, whether that's for lack of range (*cough*Jeter*cough*) or poor judgment. For a perfect example, look at Gardner's botched play on the line drive to center that cost the Yanks a run. That was called a double... no question it should have been caught, though.

^That play by Gardener was horrible, he misjudges so many fly balls out there

I didn't see it, so I can't say, though I did read that Gardner admitted he misplayed the ball.

Still, 17 straight games without a credited error is very damned impressive, even if you were "given" one. The fact remains that, defensively, this team is impressive, which were both agreeing on anyway.

Joba looking great other than that one pitch to Martinez, which wasn't even a bad pitch.

    Awesome dive by Joba before.

Can't believe we couldn't score with no outs and the bases loaded though.

It's really disgusting when your 4, 5, and 6 hitters can't get a single run in with no outs and the bases loaded.

The Yanks now have a hard decision to make with the starting pitching! How long has it been since we could say that?

    96 on the gun!!!!

This is definitely his last inning if he's hitting those numbers.

Wow, he's going to complete eight innings.

Yankees also about to set a record for consecutive errorless games at 18.
