i can't understand this thread, at all. signing Pennington, was a great move on the part of the Dull-phins.They got a guy who can lead, by example, and teach those young QB's. They've essentially signed a playing coach.
oh my god. Obviously the thread was meant to be sarcastic - calling certain fans here "idiots," not parcells. where has reading comprehension gone?
Chad is smart and knows the game. It was good to bring in a veteran like him to help teach guys like Henne.
sarcastic as fuck? really? where on the sarcasm meter does that actually lie. yes, the sarcasm was obvious, and so was the OP's considerable lack on context. he was attempting to make the argument that since Chad is good enough to lead the Dolphins he should be good enough to lead the Jets, thus isn't a useless piece of junk QB. of course, that fails to acknowledge the current state of the Dolphin's QB situation and the fact that just because he is an upgrade there doesn't mean he is the best choice of QB for the Jets. would that be context as fuck?
If the "sarcasm was obvious" then how could there be a "lack of context"? Either you understood it or you didn't.
 Favre was brought in because of his name, not to win the war. He was brought in to sell PSLs and boxes in the new stadium. They were clearly second fiddle to the Giants and Woody decided to get the Jets some attention. You can't serioulsy believe the Jets are going to the Super Bowl with Favre this year. And, out of curiosity what makes the Dolphins situation so much worse than the Jets? I don't see much difference between 1-15 and 4-12. You think a 1-15 team is rebuilding yet a 4-12 team is win now? If the Jets are win now it's going to be an extremely disappointing season. And the Dolphins also had a nice offseason. My point is, so many people on this site thought Pennington was terrible. They had to get Favre because they simply couldn't win with Pennington. Now the Dolphins, in a very similar situation, didn't make any kind of move to get Favre (not that I've read anyway). If Parcells is so brilliant and only wanted a QB to hold the fort for a year or two why not go after Favre? Obviously, at 39, he's so much better than Pennington. So why not bring the gunslinger to town and let him rip it for a few years? But Parcells obviously thought Pennington was the better solution. Hence, he must be an idiot. At least according to many of the fans on this site.
While i think that we are going to have a good season as long as the team stays healthy....I think this post is dead on accurate.
If you think that the Jets and Dolphins are in exactly the same situation then of course it doesn't make sense to bring in Favre, but I don't think many people agree with you that that is the case - on paper, at least (which is all you can go by until the season begins), the Jets are much better than the Dolphins. Just pointing to last year's record is ridiculous - the Jets were a 10-win team two years ago, and I certainly believe that the personnel is better now than it was then. The PSL argument is also ridiculous on its face. Everyone knows that Favre is only here for two years at the most, which means he won't play in the new stadium. The only way that his presence could possibly help the PSL situation is if he plays very well right away, and since you're convinced that he won't, your entire argument makes no sense. In fact, if you're right, his presence will hurt PSL sales, since fans will be so angry and disappointed they'll turn on the team. The truth, of course, is that it won't affect them one way or the other, because everyone knows that Favre has nothing to do with the new stadium. I find your anti-Favre hostility puzzling, to say the least. There are only three reasons that I can see for hating this turn of events. (1) You think that Pennington is as good a quarterback as Favre. Okay, but I doubt many people would agree with that. (2) You think the Jets gave up too much for Favre. Since the deal is based on both him playing and the Jets succeeding, and they gave up no players, IMO that's not reasonable. (3) You think the Jets stink, and they need to be finding out if Clemens is any good. Alternatively, you think that Clemens has already demonstrated that he is good, and deserves the starting job. The first part of this is the only choice that is even remotely reasonable to me (if you think Clemens has already demonstrated that he's good, you're crazy). That is why I've said in other threads (going back a month or more) that I believe that Mangini and Tanenbaum have decided that Clemens is not what they thought he would be (this is where I differ from winston - I don't think they think he isn't ready, I think they think he isn't good enough). As I said above, I don't believe for a second that Woody forced this on them to get publicity, since publicity in July and August is meaningless, and if Favre stinks, the publicity in October and November will be all bad. I think they feel that the Jets are a potential playoff team, and that Clemens wouldn't be the guy to get them there. As others have noted, the idea that because Parcells wants Pennington over Beck, Henne, and McCown that means the Jets shouldn't want Favre over Pennington and Clemens is too absurd to even discuss.
Something just occured to me. I have not researched this but I beleive Chad leaving IS the end of an era. He was the last remaining player we had that was aquired by Parcells. Now we are completly tuna free from his Jets years. Kind of sad to look at it that way.
They have better chance of doing it now than they with Penny. Did Farve pee in your snocone or something?
This could be the most ridiculous post of the year. Are you truly trying to say that entering this season the Jets and Dolphins have similiar rosters and are at the same stage rebuilding their rosters? The Dolphins who got rid of Taylor and Thomas and rebuilding an entire roster and had no legit qb on their roster? Listen...by now we all get that you wanted Pennington and you hate Favre the person. We get it. Sarcastic threads and all. Anyone that has suffered through reading your posts, whether it be by accident or intentionally, understands you made this thread to make it sound like the genius Parcells knew better then us so he picked up Pennington....like he had a 1% chance to pick up Favre. Favre would have rather cut lawns for $10.00 a shot then play for a roster like the Dolphins. He simply picked up Pennington because Chad is better then any other qb on that roster. Give it a break. We get it. We get the fact that even if we have to close our eyes all season not to read your posts, you will be rooting for your team to fail so you will look right. That sounds like a pretty exciting season to me if I were you. Enjoy it.
Parcells' favorite line is guys who are "hold the fort" guys. That is what he wants with Chad. Have Chad start 8-10 games and then turn it over to their rookie from Michigan.
Before I get to the above.............. Staffjeff , excellent post it was spot on as well. Jawayne, As usual you hit the nail on the head, great post! I do not think I can add anything further................
You live in a dreamworld. Yes, I'm seriously saying there's not a huge difference between 1-15 and 4-12. I'm saying the Jets won't win the Super Bowl with a 39-year old QB leading the way. I'm saying that at one point Favre would rather cut lawns for $10 a shot than play for the Jets. Yes it didn't stop the Jets from going after him. Just because you think Favre is the second coming doesn't make it so. There's only one reason the Jets went after him and that money. And yes I absolutely believe that was the primary motivation. But please, don't read my threads. Read all the threads about how much Pennington sucks, how bad his arm is, how anyone who wanted Pennington or Clemens to start was an asshole or idiot. I'm sure you enjoy those posts a lot more than something insightful.
the Phins lost their best pass rusher and their leading tackler in the offseason..plus their secondary is trash..other than drafting Jake Long....i think their offseason wasn't anything to write home about. Unless you consider signing Penny and Josh McCown as a victory for the Phins....then I'd have to question your intelligence.
And you just continue putting words in peoples mouths like "the jets will not win a superbowl with Favre". That may be so...please point out where i even mentioned that the jets would make the playoffs since we traded for Favre. My only excitement from getting Favre is so that I can watch MY qb perform like an nfl qb and use the entire field instead of rooting for a qb that had the weakest arm in nfl history. My expectations are actually pretty low..and Im just going tp sitback and enjoy watching a qb that doesnt get my receivers killed. Nothing personal frado.
