You guys re making too much of it, Pettine simply wants more money and will use his FA status to try and get it with the Jets or with someone else.
Try turning off ESPN and looking at the NFL with an objective mind. The only reason we're a laughing stock is because we have a quarterback who has a permanent place on the blooper reel.
Sorry dude - I don't watch ESPN - But I can tell you that I do not live in NY and listen to a lot of local and national sports radio talk. Like it or not we are the laughing stock of the NFL. It goes way beyond Sanchez sucking. It has to do with what a buffoon and blowhard Rex is, the complete locker room meltdown last year, the Tebow circus and on and on and on. Trust me I have friends all over the country - the Jets are a fucking joke.
Rex is an idiot? Really? What has he said this year that makes him as bad as two years ago? The locker room meltdown happened last year. It happened because for the most part, Sanchez wasn't playing up to par. The Tebow circus, I can agree with. And you know what, had Tebow not come here, nobody would care about the New York Jets, and nobody would be covering them talking about 'what a joke' the franchise is. The only thing that makes us a joke is the fact that Mark Sanchez is all but guaranteed employment here due to that stupid contract.
The media blows this WAAAAY out of proportion. Rex is not the issue. He's severely toned it down this year and now the media gives him shit for not explaining things. When Manish cites these anonymous sources, why is he the only one that gets them? You don't see Cimini or Johnette Howard doing that. Just Manish. And then Slauson comes out and says, "Wait a minute, I said that four months ago." It's a joke. The problem is Woody and his stunt to bring Teblow in. Rex clearly was not a part of that or else Tebow would have ACTUALLY PLAYED. Hopefully Woody gets that his media charade has made a laughingstock of his football team and he backs off. Fire everybody but Rex, bring in Norv and go back to conservative and defensive football until we find our quarterback of the future. It's not as doom and gloom as people think.
^^^ except for the Tebow thing. Cimini says Tebow was on Tannenbaum and Woody jumped on the bandwagon while Rex was quietly unhappy about the move. I'd have thought Tebow was on Woody also given what we know but it's very possible that it was Tannenbaum.
Rex isn't an idiot, he's just a mediocre head coach and should be fired after the season. If we could demote him to DC then great, but we can't. So bye.
Mediocre? This is his first meaningless regular season game he's played in four years here. The guy is doing his best with a bad situation.
I am die hard Jet fan. But don;t let your fandom blind you. I wish it were not true but it is not debatable we are a joke. And I am making the observation that to the rest of the country that we are a slapstick show not because we are the worst team, there are obviously shittier teams (KC, Jax, Oak etc.) but all of the off the field that has transpired with the team since Rex's arrival. (Even before hand with Favre) However, like I said I do not live in NY and the were talking about the Jets for the last few years (before Tebow) as a fucking joke - when your head coach pawns his wife out on the internet you are a joke. In most parts of the country people look at Jets fans in the same light as being a Cleveland Browns or Jaguars Fan.
Mediocre head coach, yes. Tannenbaum bought him a fancy team the first two seasons and combined that with good leftovers from Mangini. Even with that, a tremendous amount of luck came our way. Year 3 the locker room was a mess. This season featured Rex making one embarrassing decision after another culminating in the season being on the line and him trotting out Tebow after Sanchez actually showed a faint pulse. WTF was that? What good head coach does stuff like that? What good NFL head coach coddles their QB? What good NFL coach goes up to their crappy QB in the locker room after a bad game and consoles them? Who does that in the NFL??? Players coaches never last long unless you have someone who is a self motivated superstar like Peyton Manning leading the team. Really true for all sports.
This is probably why he didn't sign anything. The Jets are apparently assholes about allowing interviews for higher jobs: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/jetsb...ets_kept_ZXf0p0Kn1DL9O4QSkty2HM#axzz2Fk4qwgUy
1- Rex Ryan will resign/retire from football. 2- Mike Pettine, who spent his life in the shadow of Ryan, will be offered the HC job. 3- After 5 days as Head Coach, Pettine will call a news conference and, reading from a paper napkin, mutter a few indiscernible words, then quite as HC of the Jets. 4- Pettine will move on to coach Buffalo, where he will lead the Bills to 3 super bowls in 5 years. Only the names have been changed.
Yes he is an idiot for saying mark gives us the best chance to win a million times and for activating tebow with broken ribs and deactivating their best QB (Mac)
Possible reasons he declined- 1.More money 2.Doesn't want to get stuck here when Rex is fired 3.Wants to spread his wings and see if he can be HC
He must have a feeling that Rex is going to be on his way out soon. No reason to paint yourself into a corner here. Hopefully he will Learn from Rex's mistakes and grow from it. You can't coach one side of the ball only. To be a head coach, you must be involved with all 3. Not like Rex with his head in his ass letting the Offense go to shit and do nothing about it.
