The way I have always looked at this debate is by asking myself two questions:

    1) If I had a game I absolutely had to win next Sunday, and given the choice, who do I take as my starting quarterback?

    2) If I am drafting a guy to be the Jets quarterback for the next 15+ years, am I taking a 22 year old Brady or a 22 year old Manning?

For me, Brady is the clear answer to question #1 and question #2 is a toss-up. As a result, I give the edge to Brady. I have always felt he was the better player. Honestly, there is no wrong answer. Both guys are possible GOAT candidates.

You're basing that answer on a false positive

Brady can't avoid a rush and he can't dissect a defense without help in his ear. the Denver game proved that

I've said it elsewhere, and it still holds true: If you want to win a football game, you go to Brady. If you want to win a skills competition, you go with Manning (or Marino or Tarkenton or any other big stat guy). You play the game to win. Winning does not suck.

If you give both QB's B.B. at coach and all the advantages (perceived or real) that come with that, who do you pick? Where i think your who wins games argument takes a hit (i agree with you winning is what matters) winning is a team game. Coaches defense and special teams all come into play.Manning has been successful with 4 coaches, Brady has always had just 1 and he's a sure fire hall of famer.

People are generally split. Some think Brady made BB successful, others think the reverse. Who knows. Dolphins fans love to hang their hat on how great a passer Marino was. Brady is more likely to play in the AFCCG (66.7%) vs. completing a pass (63.6%). Winning is more fun for the fans. It's not like the guy has been along for the ride.

put Marino or Manning with Belichick, and your Patriots might be in literally every AFCCG.
conversely, put Br*dy on that terrible '98 Colt team, and he'd never recover. If he did somehow survive that year, he certainly would not last thru 4 coaches or 2 teams.
Dungy wouldn't be in the HOF.
the Br*dy/Caldwell combo goes nowhere, rather than vying for a perfect season like Manning/Caldwell did.

It was Belichick, the system, and the team situation which made Br*dy, not the other way around.

Guys like Manning and Marino had the talent to succeed anywhere.
and fwiw, i couldn't stand Marino..

I'm sorry to parse out one portion, but the bolded comment is ridiculously inaccurate. Luck has not performed well at all in the playoffs, outside of that comeback against the Chiefs (and even in that game he had some bad turnovers).

Luck's career numbers in the playoffs: 3-3 W-L, 56% completion, 9 TDs, 12 INTs, 71 passer rating. Mostly a mediocre performer, and had an absolutely atrocious meltdown against a so-so Pats D in the AFC CG .

Peyton's career numbers in the playoffs: 14-13 W-L, 63% completion, 40 TDs, 25 INTs, 87 passer rating. A step down from his regular season performance, for sure, but nowhere near the depths that Luck has paraded in.

Sorry to say, and maybe Luck changes the narrative down the road, but Peyton has been the superior player performer. Who cares about their head to head last season? The Colts won that game because their D snuffed out the Broncos offense, not because Luck lit it up. You can't go by that alone, unless you also think Peyton is better than Brady this season because he beat him head to head.

starting a franchise, it's Manning, and it's not even close.
how many coaches has he made look good? He's proven he could succeed anywhere.
there's a reason he was the number one overall pick. that's who i'd want for the Jets in your scenario.

in terms of winning a game, who would you take, Caldwell/Br*dy or Belichick/Manning?

once you separate Belichick from the Br*dy equation, the answers to your questions become pretty evident.

thx i feel like I'm just stating the obvious, but that can become a moving target with P*ts fans.

top 3 to me are Unitas, Montana, Manning......can't go wrong with any of the 3, and i'd probably lean Manning.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more cases made for Montana or Unitas though....

maybe Champ can tell us about Sammy Baugh and Red Grange
