Or Shoddy managing. Jerry should have been thinking about the way to make the end game easy for everyone.
Correct, except you don't even need Green there - Parnell or Stokes would be fine also (although other than the first hit Green actually wasn't awful). As I posted at the time I thought Pelfrey was losing it in the 6th, so there's no way he should have faced three batters in the 7th, all of whom hit it hard.
15 men left on base and 2 unearned runs given up in a tie game. The Mets should have had this game easily.
I agree...My point was about Pedro in the 7th, and how that makes all three innings easy for the staff. And yes....Green wasn't awful and if Beltran doesn't worry about the wall, he concentrates completely on the ball and the Wright play never happens (which is why Jerry will escape scrutiny for bush league mismanagement...) but Neither guy should have been in that position in the first place. Jerry should have wanted to stick it Hamels @$$ as much as the rest of Metdom, and needs to stop playing checkers like he's still in the American league. The National league is a 3 moves ahead game.
I F*NG HATE pitching him BC it's the ninth against the lower part of the order. Keeping him in vexes me more....
Thanks to luck and a good defensive play he got through it, but now how will he be if they need him tomorrow in a save situation? Why not bring in Stokes? He's basically had one bad outing the entire season. Manuel just doesn't make sensible decisions.
And the Mets lose. Did Stokes kill Manuel's dog or something? He's made one appearance in the last 10 days.
I did not have high hopes for the game tonight, but this is still a very disappointing loss given how easily the Mets should have won it.
Yup. Go back and look at the roster Bobby V took to the World Series....(hide your car keys first)...and then wonder WTF has been going on with them for the last 3 years.
Look at the lineup the Mets are running out there every day this year. The 2000 lineup is much stronger. Not to mention they got very good starting pitching 1-4 all year long. The 99 team was better but both were vastly superior to the current Mets team. Valentine did a good job but I don't know where this impression comes from that those teams weren't very good.
Key word. Current (as in injury riddled...). And no I'm not saying they weren't good. I'm saying BobbyV got the best there was to get out of them. And This is a much stronger lineup than the 2K team. Wright > Ventura. Reyes> Bordick/abbott Delgado >Zeile. Beltran>Payton. Church> Perez... The only position player matchups that favor the old squad are Alfonzo and Piazza.
