hahhaha this is such a stupid response........Dak Prescott prolly woulda been a far more timely and worthy analogy dont you think? Instead of ancient bullshit references?
the over / under for the 2018 Jets in Las Vegas is 6. I was drinking and bet a little on the over when I was there last month but realistically that's probably where they will end up. 6-10. 7-9, maybe
This is an outstanding point of view on this season. Realistically, a comparison between position groups last year to this year would not show any major upgrades if any outside of secondary(tru and assumed improvements from Adams and maye)and the assumed upgrade at center based on the low bar set last season. 2019 is when we should see the upgrade at qb that would propel us forward with measurable steps.
In context, yes, "great". Of course how he'll actually do is based on a number of factors like: can he stay healthy; will he continue to perform well against real defenses in the regular season as he did in preseason; does the game plan/play calling help him; does the rest of the team help him? But he has shown - IMO - that he has all the tangibles and intangibles that a FQB needs to have. The best in fact since Namath for the Jets. I'm usually the "glass half empty" type, so being this optimistic about Darnold is rare, but I'm willing to be disappointed if that happens.
Lets see how we do and the rest of the competition does over the first 3 games..this should be something of a measuring stick before injuries really pile up
Good point on the position group comparisons. I'd say the position upgrades were in the Secondary, WR (Enunwa back and Pryor added), and Center. But that's about it. And that's with everyone currently healthy. QB in the early part of this season may even be a downgrade from QB in early part of 2017. It's a learning year for Darnold, and will have rough spots especially early on.
In the context of a draft pick yes ,great pick. In the context of asset or liability to this season’s success (wins/losses) he is a liability.or probably is. Bowles is going to say he gives us the best chance to win but we know that is a lie. You only start rookie QBs for 2 reasons. One, you have no choice, see Prescott, dak. 2. You are looking for the long term answer and you have some job security to post a losing season. Pretty sure that’s where we land this year.
I agree how we sometimes forget the other guys are also looking to improve, But I think in the AFC East Bills, Patriots, & dolphins have all regressed they have all lost many players. I believe we have gotten better at RB, WR, C, CB, QB. TO NAME A FEW Bills have lost QB, 3 OL Dolphins have lost Suh, Landry Patriots have lost WR, RB, CB, LT I know these teams are going to try to fill in the holes left by lost players, but I think our division will be easier than last year.
The Jets will win 6 games - possibly 7. And they should be thrilled to win 7 games with no pass rush and a lousy OL.......
It's o.k, I was also considered a homer and laughed at when heading into our 2009 upcoming season with a rookie QB; all because I recognized a soon to be dominant defense under Rex Ryan was on the horizon (I got to enjoy the last laugh all while non-believers transformed into the biggest Jets homers of All-Time). Here in 2018 I love our defense so much more (outside of Revis) and am confident we'll field a top 3 NFL defense especially now that Todd Bowles has an outstanding secondary in order to unleash exotic blitz packages as he did while with Arizona. And Sam Darnold, as a rookie is light years ahead of Mark Sanchez. Our 2018 Jets offense may not have the same type of veteran offensive line or run game but we've got a lot more weapons on offense and a much better signal caller in Jeremy Bates rather than an extremely young Schottenheimer Jr.
2009 seems so far away. I was excited that year also and Sanchez came out blazing. Too many unknowns still with this team. I think Darnold will be our guy for over a decade. Have no idea what kind of offense Bates will call but if its anything like the preseason we might not win a game. We know we have not improved an inch on the defensive side of coaching. I also have no idea where those exotic blitzes are gonna come from and more importantly from whom. Darnold will be the story this year good, bad or otherwise.
I remember that opening day game in Houston... Sanchez looked so poised in the pocket and seemed to know exactly when and where to take those small steps needed to avoid pressure. He shouldn't go down in Jets lore as an embarrassment or a bust in my opinion. He failed to meet expectations for sure but Sanchez also lead the team to two of the best seasons its ever had and I miss being a legitimate playoff threat - almost a decade now
I agree with you also on that. Sanchez get's a bad rap and I'm sick and tired of seeing the butt fumble. The team rapidly deteriorated after those 2 AFC playoff games. They took away all his playmaker Cotchery, Braylon and Santonio Holmes had his own issues. LT left, Thomas Jones. All he had was Keller and he couldn't stay healthy. They had bad drafts on top of all that.
