While I agree the Jets certainly did not do Sanchez any favors letting the roster on the offensive side of the ball deteriorate - Sanchez simply did not have the qualities of a leader. If that were the case he would not have flamed out on everywhere else he went. The Eagles and Bears were both desperate and gave him a chance to be the starter and he fell flat.....
5-11. We are a better team than last year but I see us losing a lot of close games. Although I could easily see us winning 9 to 10 games with the easy early schedule. I like the young talent, I like the team chemistry, and I love the new QB I just think they need another year, an OL upgrade and a pass rusher to be a good team.
Noam - A very fair statement and honest expectations. I just plan on enjoying the season knowing this is a young team that needs more playmakers and not to expect much. It's a good move giving Darnold this experience before he is expected to win..... Next year is when this team should be ready for a playoff push....
Probably 6-10. The have a terrible offensive line, made up of undrafted free agents, low round picks, or other teams unwanteds. Until MacCagnan figures out what the other 31 teams already know (you have to DRAFT some offensive lineman once in a while), there will be NO holes for jets runners and Darold will have no time to throw--they already are limiting him to very short drop backs because of their swiss cheese offensive line.. Secondly, all the money and all the draft picks MacCagnan and Bowles use on defensive backs doesn't mean squat if the opposing QB has all day to throw.
@Lions L Dolphins W @Browns W @Jaguars L Broncos W Colts W Vikings L @Bears W @Dolphins W Bills W Patriots L @Titans L @Bills W Texans L Packers W @Patriots W 10-6 I think our team is a lot better than most think we are. This is the year we sweep the Bills and the Dolphins, as they are two of the worst teams in the NFL. We also luck out with the Patriots resting their players in week 17. I can see us winning the Lions and Titans games, but I gave us losses as we always seem to lose games we should win and win 1 game a year that we shouldn't have. That one win may be the Texans or the Packers. Powell will lead us in TDs with 8. Mack will lead us in sacks (plot twist!) with 12.
I went 7-9/8-8 with Darnold having growing pains in 2018. Doubt we sweep both the Bills and Fins. Divisional games are usually tough. The Jets always have one or two games every year that piss their fan base off. The games they should win but lose. With a good draft and some key FA signings this coming off season then 2019 is a good chance they compete for a playoff spot.
Haha true, I meant to give us a W for either the Texans or Packers. I'm figuring one of those games will be the one that we're a 10 point underdog and win the game.
We always seem to not be able to sweep divisional opponents, but if there is on year we could, I think this is the year. Josh Allen is not even close to being ready, and he's still their best option. Tyrod's mobility was a major factor in the Bills sustaining drives against us, and he was very undervalued in Buffalo. Miami lost a ton of talent. No more Landry, AJayi or Suh. They will struggle to win games unless Tannehill has a career year. 2019....$93M in cap room and Darnold in year 2, I don't expect us to just compete for a playoff spot....I'd be thinking it's playoffs or bust with aspiration for a deep playoff run. When you have a talented QB on a rookie contract, you can pay for the talent around him and that can often be the best window to compete for Super Bowls.
I hope you are right about this but it will depend on Darnold. Can he play well right away like Wentz and Watson did or will their be growing pains. Both the Bills and Dolphins could struggle but again divisional games are never easy. For the Jets playing at Buffalo is usually a house of horrors and they play their late in the season when the weather could be a factor.
Obviously the Jets can only hope that Darnold is as good as Wentz as quickly as Wentz became good, but the fact is that he wasn't all that great in his rookie year - he got off to a great start (7 TDs, 1 INT, 103.5 rating over the first four games), but then came back down to earth pretty hard (9 TDs, 13 INTs, 72.3 rating over the last 12 games). Correspondingly, the team went 3-1 in the first four and 4-8 in the last twelve. Watson's success in his first six starts was unprecedented, but again it was only six games. Darnold can play like Wentz did right away and (not or) there will be growing pains, which is why I don't see a .500 record this year.

@Lions L Dolphins W @Browns W @Jaguars L Broncos L Colts L Vikings L @Bears L @Dolphins L Bills W Patriots L @Titans L @Bills W Texans L Packers L @Patriots L I think we'll end up at 6-10 which I fully realize doesn't represent the choices above (4-12). I just chose the games based on how I felt they would turn out, but I have a feeling 2 of those will swing our way in a surprise. I don't think we beat Stafford in Darnolds first game though. That's just too tough.
@Lions W Dolphins W @Browns W @Jaguars L Broncos W Colts W Vikings L @Bears W @Dolphins W Bills W Patriots L @Titans W @Bills W Texans L Packers L @Patriots L 10-6. Wild Card It'll be a zany season. We'll be pinching ourselves at 10-3. Then losing the last 3 will bring on comparisons to the 1986 swoon. Crowell will rush for 1,000 yards. Pryor will lead the team with 8 touchdown receptions No Jet receiver will crack 1,000 yards. Enunwa will be the closest. Darnold will spread the ball around a lot but eventually Herndon will emerge as his favorite target.
