Mark Sanchez still has not abandoned his rehab goals for shoulder & has no definite plans for surgery yet, per source close to Sanchez

    Brian Costello ‏@BrianCoz
Mark Sanchez will ramp up the rehab of his shoulder, see how it responds and then figure out how to proceed, per source #NYJ

This is somewhat true but only to a certain extant. Mark was not some an exceptional qb in his rookie season; he had 12 TD passes but threw for 20 interceptions with a completion pctg of under 54%. However, his mistakes were "cloaked" due to having a strong rushing game/OL & and a top 5, suffocating defense. Overall, excellent TEAM play propelled the Jets to thier 1st AFC Chmpnship game in years. Mark eventually was relegated to "game manager" status towards the end of that season where he enjoyed a modicum of success as qb for a team that was very, very good. Mark improved somewhat the following year (17TDS-13 INTS), but when thrust into a situation as a "game changer/leader" on a team with weak talent the last 2 years, he simply could not rise to the occasion; committing mindless & embarassing mistakes regardless whether the team was devoid of talent. They say "great" players make thier teamates rise higher but Mark simply could not do it. He just couldn't rise to the next level.

I enjoyed Mark & hoped he would be the "one"; I hope his surgery is successful and for him to be a good qb in this league no matter where goes!

To be honest, I would think that the best thing for Sanchez would be to go ahead and get the surgery and take the entire off-season to fully recover (if not, longer). He's done here . . . he should be focusing on getting healthy, so he can presumably resume his career as a backup for another team.

I'll bet you any amount of money you feel comfortable with that never happens. PM me if you are interested. I'm deadly serious.

Post-surgery healing period is 4-6 months. So, in theory, he could try to put it off and rehab. See if he can somehow play through the pain, despite risking further injury. Then in January, have surgery, and be back by June. I just don't know if that option is worth it though at this juncture.

Chad Pennington had similar surgery to his shoulder & was never the same.

I really do hope Mark comes thru ok and enjoys some kinda' success wherever
    he winds up at.

It sucks that there are so many dumb fans on this board. If the vaunted Jets defense would have stopped the Steelers after that pretty touchdown that Sanchez threw to Jericho in the 2011 AFC Championship game pulling them within four, Nacho would have won that game. He was on that second half. Would he have the same "pass" now that Eli has? Look how bad a Super Bowl MVP can look with no talent around him. Instead he's thrown to the wolves in in the forth preseason garbage time to get hurt.

Mark has taken the high road through Tebow bullshit, through idiot fans, through being thrown in a fourth quarter full of scrubs, he hasnt bitched about any of it. Yeah he was a kid that ate hotdogs on the sideline. NY scumbag media sucked the fun out of him. What about the comebacks against Detroit and the Texans in 2011? Geno hasn't shown shit compared to that.

So lets celebrate a hurt shoulder and run him out of town. Lets post every interception. Lets watch Rex get fired at the end of the season, and lose a good defensive mind in favor of a Patriot coach of the week who we can hate in two years.

Just remember Mark Sanchez won four post season games on the road in his first two years. You can say he was a game manager, that it was the team, not him. I promise you Geno will NEVER win four post season games on the road in his career.

Yeah, but Sanchez is a bum. Run him out of town, like we did Pennington, for Bret friggin Farve. Let's watch Geno throw some more interceptions and then chant for Simms.

Every NFL team had a chance to draft Geno, including Jacksonville. Yeah, we're better off with him and Simms. Lets party in the streets over a torn rotator cuff.

This is the second time this shit has happened. Someone in the media comes out saying Sanchez will opt for surgery then another report comes out and says he won't, he will rehab it. Is old dirty pulling one more quick one on everyone before he leaves town for good?

With the way things are looking Sanchez would be smart to get the surgery
and walk away from this team. If Geno/Jets continue to fail its reasonable to assume that some team could look at it as "it wasn't Sanchez it was the Jets".

After everything that has happened i don't see the Jets keeping Sanchez on this roster with out a Super Bowl this year and its pretty clear no matter who is under center this season that is nothing more then a Homers wet dream.

Sanchez is no elite QB but the Jets fucked him and simply made a bad situation worse.

He should get his rehab done and once Idzik has the new coaching staff in place they can evaluate him and see if it's worth giving it another shot. He's under contract, the Jets don't have to make any more dumb decisions regarding Sanchez. They already made a dumb decision in not shutting him down.

The new coaching staff has to make some evaluations including the viability of Sanchez or Smith as the starting QB after this season.

It was always on the Jets. No way do you blame one player for the falling out. Now we are doing the SAME exact thing with Geno. Except we have a competent coaching staff.

Good synopsis. I didn't really watch much of that Eagles game, so I'll take your word for it.

I'll admit I'm basing why I think he sucks on his awful college career. I watched him closely in college and saw some poor accuracy and struggles with adversity. No doubt he had a strong arm though. Maybe he's figuring it out now, who knows.

Only one has actually done it and that's Brady. Guys like that don't come around often. We have enough healthy talent to win now(assuming Hill and Holmes are ok).

If we go 6-10, we probably still get Rex back

i too am confused as to how one roots for an injury that already happened

this guy got paid better than 80% of his peers to perform worse than 80% of them ... woe, is him

sanchez' career is analogous to the chief engineer at one of my fav tech companies falling off and designing one shitty product after another ... but according to a few people here, i should continue buying said products, because he produced some dope shit four years ago

    spare me

it's not about rooting for an injury, it's about celebrating the end of his Jet career. Clearly we'd be better w/ him right now but moronic fans are happy the team is worse b/c of this injury b/c of their personal feelings towards the man w/ the most playoff wins for a QB in franchise history.
