I should have probably said nobody will ever pay him what he wants. So he will either retire or accept significantly less. Who would take a chance? He is a great hitter but he still has less hits then Jeter or Arod in a longer career. I'm sure there may be others too.
Don, once again, you are proving your lack of knowledge. Manny is anything but a cancer in the clubhouse. He shows up first to the ballpark every day to do extra BP and fielding practice, is a top 5 hitter of his generation, and doesn't have problems with teammates. Derek Jeter has caused more locker room problems with Arod than Manny ever has. And if you think no one will pay him, you are again badly mistaken. Look at Soriano's contract. He's a far inferior hitter and has openly defied management and got it. Manny will get his money, assuming the Red Sox don't pick up his two option years, which they might.
You might be right on all of that. He has missed 150 games in his 7 years with Boston however. 61 of those in the past two years alone. He will want more then the 20 million he gets now and I just don't see anyone paying that for somebody who seems to think he can do or say whatever he wants with no regard for anyone around him.
Last year he had tendinitis in his knee, and this year he had an oblique injury. He's getting older and those things will happen. Before that, he was top 2 in games played for the Sox every year but one, when he had a freak broken finger. And reports were that even when he was injured, he was still the first one to the ballpark every day to get his work in.
I'm not saying he wasn't hurt. I'm saying he was but 150 games in 7 years is like a free year. Would you pay him 25 million or whatever he will be asking for? Not knowing if he won't show up for spring training or decide he wants to be traded before the year begins? Or say "It doesn't happen, so who cares? There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world." on the eve of what could be the elimination game for your team? Maybe you would.
Manny will get a huge contract. He just hates playing in and for Boston and their asshole fans. He'll be real happy in Anaheim some day.
It's not the fans he has a problem with, it's the media. The fans love him. He seems to love them. Although he's done a lot of interviews lately so I'm wondering if he's coming around on the media too.
Let's see if they still love him after those comments he made yesterday. I can tell you if that happened in NY and it wouldn't matter which team or who it was, even Jeter, they would be vilified by the press, booed unmercifully by the fans and ridden out of town on a rail.
Manny being Manny. Everyone knows he's a jackass and you either love him or hate him for it. If he keeps putting up big numbers the fans won't care what he says. Those who like him will point to his production and work on and off the field. Those who don't like him will vilify him for it. The fact is he shows up early and works hard. He's one of the top players in the game and any team would be happy to have him, poor comments to the press or not.
“We’re confident every day,” Ramirez said, giving his first locker-side interview of the season. “It doesn’t matter. We’re not going to give up. We’re going to play the game and move on. If it doesn’t happen, who cares? There’s always next year. It’s not like it’s the end of the world.” So, chill out Boston. That’s how Ramirez feels. “We’ve been in this situation before,” he said. “We’ve got a great team over here. The other side, they’re playing great, they’re pitching the way they should and they’re coming through with big hits. What can you do, man? You just think about Thursday. You come and play hard, and it’s not over yet.” Reminded that the Sox came from behind against the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS, Ramirez said, “Hey, anything is possible. We’ve been behind, but we’re going to keep playing the way we’ve been playing all year long with some confidence. We’re going to go and have fun, and let’s see what’s going to happen.” Not impressed Ramirez and David Ortiz enter the game as the club’s all-time post-season home run leaders, with 11 each, which doesn’t really impress Ramirez, who has four this postseason to three for Ortiz. “It’s good,” he said, “but if I would have known that I was going to be in the World Series and not have those records, I’d give them up in a heartbeat. Who cares about records, man?” Just having fun Ramirez also said he wasn’t trying to show up Indians right-hander Jensen Lewis when he stood at the plate watching his sixth-inning home run sail into center field. As you might guess, he was just having fun. “Man, I’m just happy to do something special like that, but I’m not trying to show up anybody. I’m just trying to go have fun. If somebody strikes me out and shows me up, that’s part of the game. I love it. I like that. I like to compete.”
I am a hue Yankee fan.....and I would walk Manny over here on my fuckin shoulders, give him 25 million a year and let him be his goofy self in my outfield for as long as he wanted.....especially when I consider the two lesbians(especially the one with the unusually long ears) I have in left now. As far as Manny risking his career with his comments, thats is retarded.....there will always always be a market for a guy who can hit like that.....he is an amazing right handed hitter....and clutch.......Jeter? fuck Jeter-he caused all that ugliness last year in the yankee clubhouse because he didnt have the brains to make a 30 second comment about A-rod to get people off his back.......wanna trade Jeter for Manny right now any red sox fans? I doubt it....and yankee fans probably wouldnt want to make the deal either- but the yankee fans would be the retarded ones........Manny is amazing......I hate him
Just look at Manny's 1999 season. People want to talk about Arod this year. He blows him away. 165 RBI's More then a run a game he drove in.
The thing that I haven't even brought up is that if Don bothered to look at the entire statement, he would have seen that he was saying he wanted to win, but the team wasn't feeling any pressure. People are making a huge deal out of a quote that was taken so ridiculously out of context that it's lost all the original meaning.
The whole statement wasn't in ANY of the articles posted this morning on any of the sports sites. I posted the link, why didn't you read it? Ir's still there, read it now.
Let's go boy. Kevin Millar on a pregame segment..."IT'S TIME TO COWBOY UP" We bring this back to Fenway @ 2-3 and this series is ours.
Manny trying to run the bases is a truly pathetic scene. anyway, I hate the "analysis" keys to the game: For the Red Sox: They need to win For the Indians: They need to win great analysis. I'm really enlightened now
