You know, some of you girls should really rethink the whole idea of being aggressively pro- Red Sox fans on a predominantly NY-themed sports message board if taking shit about losing a nine run lead bothers you this much.

Do I have to go ahead and prove you wrong now? You really shouldn't post things which are so clearly not factual.

Bay has been brutal this series, and especially today. That's 5 Ks now. Ugh.

I'm not too happy that Papelbon will be coming in for a 3rd straight game though.

So you contend making light of someone's cancer is classy? Interesting.

    Sox win!

Papelbon becomes franchise saves leader, and that makes 7 series in a row won by the Sox.

No, I contend that "classy" is subject to a double standard more than most words. And it's especially... oh, what's the word... "morally pretentious" will do, I suppose... to take "offense" to jokes made on an internet forum regarding the health of professional athletes who neither you nor I will ever meet.

If it was your mother that had cancer, and I made a joke, that's one thing. If you wanted to make light of my uncle or grandmother who passed away from cancer, that's another. But that's not what we're talking about here.

I suppose you find George Carlin classless and worthy of scorn. Or what about Dave Chappelle?

I have a hard time believing either of you are such prudes as to recoil in horror at such a "lack of class" on my part. And if you do, then you both would be shunned as complete pussies by 99% of the Sox fans in my neighborhood who are far, far, far less tasteful, in general. (Being shunned by them is not a bad thing, in my opinion.)

Nice to be able to win another series. But we can't throw away games like we did yesterday.

I never said I was offended by it, I just find it interesting that you are spouting off about Sox fans' class in one post and making jokes about someone having cancer in another.

I didn't "spout off" about it. I just agreed that they're typically classless. And that's a true statement that is independent of any value judgment. They are typically classless in a manner that pales in comparison to any joke I made. Were the teams reversed, I am 100% certain that most of the Sox fans I see around here wouldn't limit jokes to an internet message board. They'd yell them at him in the on-deck circle, given the opportunity.

And for the record, I find many/most Yankee fans to be rather classless, as well.

Oh, and I put "offense" in quotes for a reason. I don't think you were actually offended, but to suggest that there is something classless about my joke suggests either some degree of offput-ness, or you were being disingenuous because of the laundry you root for.

My memory isn't the greatest any more but I don't remember Red Sox fans making jokes or crude comments about Joe Torre when he was diagnosed with cancer.
