Again, my congratulations to you, sir! You and your local brethren are obviously the most classy of individuals, and the other 99% of your fan base that surrounds me every day is obviously not representative of the true Red Sox fan, the pinnacle of virtue! Pip pip, cheerio!

In case it wasn't clear, the "Sox fans around here" I was referring to was in the physical sense, meaning the assholes in my neighborhood.

So again, my original point comes up. You don't think there is anything classless about making jokes about a specific person's cancer? Whether I knew them or not, I would find that classless.

And before you bring up the Carlin thing again, there's a difference. If he jokes about say, rape, it's in general terms or regarding fictional characters like Elmer Fudd. It's not "Did you hear about such and such celebrity getting raped? Isn't that hilarious?" When it targets a specific person then yes, I think it clearly does cross the line to classless. Not that I'm saying it can't be funny anyway (though yours wasn't), but it's still lacking in the class department.

If everyone here agrees that most Pats fans are "unclassy" assholes, and knowing that the majority of Sox fans are Pats fans, we should just acknowledge that most Sox fans are unclassy assholes.

Anyways, this game definitely makes me feel better about last night. They way they came back was impressive and seeing the pen recover was also really encouraging. Either way they would be a good team in good shape, but the memory of this could make them play with a little more fear in the future, and that's probably not a bad thing. They really did seem too relaxed last night.

Aside from the fact that all of this misses the point, here's the more important question you should ask... who cares? Are you afraid Lowell's feeling are going to be hurt?

Most Sox fans have no class. Neither do most Yankee fans. Neither do I, according to some (you).

Obviously, you're Mr. Debonair and the epitome of social skills and grace every second of the day, to worry about the feelings of a professional athlete.

    Or maybe not.

So let me get this straight... making a joke about the (cured) cancer of a public figure no one here will likely ever meet... that makes you raise an eyebrow. But saying the above to a real live person with whom you are interacting directly? What is that? Righteous anger?

You'll forgive me if I'm skeptical of any claim to moral authority here.

You're missing the entire point and making way more of this than you need to. All I'm saying is that I found it interesting that in one post you called a group classless and in another in the same thread you made a classless joke. I'm not saying you're a classless person in general, I'm not saying that Sox or Yankee fans are or are not classy in general, or even if I am or am not classy in general. I just found it amusing that you had two posts in a thread that were so completely at odds with each other. That is all.

We've already been over this. What is at odds with my two statements?

Irrespective of whether you think my statement is classless, that has zero bearing on the accuracy of the opinion of Sox fans as generally classless and any value judgments made therein. And, again, they levels of classlessness we're talking about aren't even in the same ballpark.

There's sort of a difference between a person that makes a snarky joke that could possibly be in poor taste, and a person that carries themself as an all-around unintelligent, obnoxious, tool. This applies to a lot of fans from every single team.
