Yeah, he pitched good but we did have a lot of blown chances... That 2nd and 3rd with zero outs really hurt this Rays once we left the inning with zero runs scored.

hats off to the Red Sox and Beckett.

Lets go Kazmir...Tie the series up

Heh, "a lot of chances". You have that backwards. The Sox were the team with a ton of chances. Tampa managed only 5 baserunners against Beckett in 7 innings. By contrast the Sox had 12 in just 5 1/3 vs Shields. This game wasn't as close as the score indicates. Great way to start the season and you know what? This Red Sox team showed me something today. They are so young and exciting!

hahah, good one. Enjoy that 1-0 record because Upton and Price will be back with the Rays within the next 2-3 weeks.

1-0 on the seires, good W...Lets see what Kazmir has to offer

Kazmir is pretty good, but you know what? The Sox starter tomorrow isn't exactly chopped liver. In fact, he's young and exciting!

Actually, he's pretty dull. And his arm will fall off by mid-May.

    And he likes men.

I think this Sox team showed where it's put its eggs this season - pitching. Can't ask Beckett to do anything more than he did. Great seeing that. Rough start for Okajima, but he showed stones and dug down for Crawford. Masterson was everything he needs to be. Papelbon picked up where he left off. Have to think that set-up position is going to constantly change throughout the season, but they have starter depth and bullpen stability going into the season and that's comforting.

Varitek is a curious thing. Through the Spring, it looks like he's trying to prove people wrong with power. Hell, I'm all for it, but it's got to end some time, no?

I honestly have no idea why he's banned. He's annoying as fuck, but I didn't think that was bannable.

Garza just manhandled the Sox today although the Sox made in close at the end.
I cant understand how Dice-k can be so dominating in the WBC and then be so mediocre today.
    Rays moving on to Baltimore.

    1. The quality of competition is typically much higher in MLB.
    2. His FB averaged 86.8 mph according to Pitch F/X. That's really low for him. (It's typically around 92 mph.) There might be another issue.

Part of it is he only pitched like 14 innings in the WBC. He didn't really have enough of a ST. More than velocity it was his location. Usually his walks are the result of trying to nibble, but today he was just missing spots, mostly in the strike zone, resulting in some HRs.
