Looking at this from a completely rational standpoint the Jets really aren't under any more pressure from the Revis situation than they create for themselves by worrying about it.

He's under contract for the next 3 seasons, so he can't just walk away. The Jets have 2 strong CB possibilities aside from him on the roster in Cromartie and Wilson, so his absence isn't going to be crippling. The ridiculous upside pressure on the contract is in Oakland, and Asomugha's deal is up after this year, so the comparison contracts will likely be more reasonable in 2011, when Revis is STILL locked up for 2 more seasons.

This is just not a pressure cooker unless the Jets put a lid on themselves somehow and make it one. They should go handle Mangold now and relieve some of the pressure. Then they lockup Harris, assuming they're willing to pay him top dollar, and the pressure drops a bit more. Finally, they open negotiations with D'Brick and then Revis, after the two really pressing contracts are finished, and see what they can get done.

Someone needs to assasinate Al Davis. His decisions are no longer only affecting his team but also others now.

If it weren't for aso's contract we could easily ink Revis for 13-14M and he wouldbe ecstatic.

i say dont renegotiate, keep him here for 3 years, franchise him, then trade him for a 1st and a 2nd, that way we will be able to keep mangold, dbrick and harris, maybe both edwards and holmes, and it gives kyle wilson 3 years to become a legit #1 corner. I know a lot of may think this is crazy but it would give our FO A LOT of flexibility for years to come.

but any agent would say, "you don't give a 'decent amount' to the best player in football"

he's going to be given, on average, the 15-16 mil he wants. It might mean 12mil the 1st year and 20 in the last.

also, he's not a QB we have a high paid QB on our roster, no team can afford 2 and stay competitive.

I know QBs aren't being paid what revis will end up making, but every year the averages go up.

The cap (when there is one) also goes up as well. The Jets are still under the old cap by a good amount. they can afford to to pay the core 4.

    I hope your right.
Part of me says we need this team back and everything stay the same, then part of me thinks that with the Coaches and front office we have in place, were gunna be fine regardless.

The argument against him getting an Aso level contract is that Davis gave that contract out before the economy collapsed. We're living in a different world at the moment and as long as the economy stays depressed it's going to be really hard to argue for a record-breaking contract based on a single outlier contract that was signed before things went downhill.

In 2006 Woody would have sold out the PSL's without breaking a sweat. That has to be taken into account when looking at the overall picture.

I suspect that Revis will wind up signing a deal worth maybe $11-12 million a year if it gets done this season and might have a shot at $15-16 million if it gets done in his walk year. There's really nothing he and his agent can do to change that dynamic. If they want the security of a long-term deal and a really good upfront payout they're going to have to give some on the overall numbers. If they're willing to wait until they really have the Jets over a barrel then they can milk it for maximum gain.
