Slauson, Turner, UDFAs Charlie Tanner and Keith Buckman and the contents of the waiver wire at this point.
Vlad is tooooo raw to put him in on passing plays. Rex is fat, not stupid. My 'guess' is Slauson will be penciled in for Fanny to start. Slauson has had a year of mentoring and training and Rex no doubt has been grooming him for that slot. Vlad will see time on the right side on some running plays as part of his development. Rex will groom Vlad to replace Woody next season, just as he groomed Slauson to replace Fanny this season. edit: we may even see Vlad as TE or behind Sanchez on goal line runs. Just break out a tape of William the frig Perry!
I'd be really happy if for this year we only played Ducasse in jumbo packages. I don't want the kid to lose confidence and I think he's pretty raw as of now... use him sparingly and make him learn a year behind Woody. That is of course if Slauson can step up his game.
The only reason that I'm not too keen on Vlad playing this year is that I think he'll be most valuable to the Jets as a Right Tackle. If Tanny/Rex/Callahan think that he'd be able to play guard as a rookie then move out there when Woody leaves I'm all for it, but I'd assume that a player who needs so much development will pretty much stay where he lands.
or maybe they didnt want the 50 million dollar man to tear the ligament he eventually had surgery on?
well nothing like stepping into the fire against the ravens on opening nite...... i am already deathly scared about that game - the ravens D is at least just as good as the jets - if not better - especially after the draft. they will exploit any new starter especially on the OL..... otoh....if u are gonna hide a rookie on the OL, why not hide him in-between your 2 probowlers....... jil
Rex is fearless!!! He orders clothes online without knowing how they will fit. That's a mans man. hilarious.. love it
Agreed. It would have been awful nice to have Faneca as backup. Heck, start Ducasse or Slauson but keep Faneca in reserve.
Guards typically don't have a real steep learning curve. Espeically ones you take early in the draft. Parcells had a lot of success with Randy Jenkins who was also a 2nd rounder. Kareem McKenzine (3rd round) got thrown into the fire pretty early from what I remember and he was a T which is typically more challenging than a G. He will probably learn at G and move outside to replace Woody at RT when the time comes.
I still love the story of why he started playing football: easiest way to beat up the football players who were making fun of him for his stutter.
If that's true it just makes me like him that much more. Now that is a FUCKING JET player right there.
ummm are you being sarcastic? You asked the question who would start if Vlad stuggles, and we gave you some player who could...
