I'm not saying a CB can't be the last piece in the puzzle to get over the top but if you don't have the guys that make him the last piece of the puzzle he definitely isn't winning a Super Bowl for you. In fact paying him as if he can is one of the things that will prevent you from putting together the package before he shows up. The 49ers are paying a huge amount of money in the middle of the field to Willis and Bowman. No way they can get that done if they had Revis eating $14M of the cap before the LB's arrived. They *can* afford to rent Revis to make a run at a ring but they can't afford to pay him the money he wants afterwards because they have a huge amount of money tied up in the LB's, as a 3-4 should.
Our no.1 CB likes 2 things and 2 things only: shutting down WR's and shutting down ie... holdouts with fake injuries. Trade the greedy motherfucker!!!!!!
All season ticket holders were called , not just PSL holders . I have seats in the upper level and listened to the call ; same old bullshit .
the fans quoted are a bunch of morons. referencing Steinbrenner as if Johnson is choosing not to spend money vs. dealing w/the reality of the salary joke is dumb. they should have quoted knowledgeable fans.
I never said resigning him would be easy, I simply stated that it does not need to be done this offseason. There is no reason to explore trade options, because no one is going to give us what Revis is worth when he is coming off an ACL injury with only 1 year on his contract. The guy has said repeatedly that he wants to be a Jet for life. Resigning him won't be easy, but if Revis really wants to be a Jet, and the Jets want him, it will get done. Honestly, if structured properly, I think we could afford to make him the highest paid CB in the league. Highest paid defensive player? Of course not, but definitely highest paid CB, which is what he deserves.
^ THIS + 100 The fans freakout over DR this offseason has been nothing short of pathetic. There is no reason to think he is going anywhere other than a few rumors from unnamed sources - which means its almost certainly total BS.
One thing: can't say that they wont be "ready to compete" until Revis is past his prime...this is football not baseball folks, its a year to year thing when u have the makings of a good defense in place. Make no mistake, they have that. A couple of good drafts and theyre right back, cant get rid of revis just because u feel they wont "compete" in a while thats ridiculous
Since U have been a STHer since the 60s like me then please explain how come they have been rebuilding since 01/13/69 & have been totally unsuccessful under either Hess or WJ since then?
Rebuilding doesn't always guarantee success. Lord knows the Jets have had close to none since 1969. That doesn't mean we should just NOT rebuild the right way. I honestly would rather trade Revis. One is healthy. One makes less money. The other is coming off major surgery and will be tying up the cap.
The call was pretty much a waste of time. You know that they can't address specifics like Revis but they should have addressed philosophy and what will differentiate this regime from that Tanny regime. Tanny wasted too many drafts by packaging picks to move up and take non-impact players. He signed too many non-impact high priced free agents. He extended contracts and guaranteed contracts on players he never should have and in most cases didn't have to extend or guarantee. He in large part ignored the offense via draft and free agency. I wanted to hear that this nonsense is over and what Idzik's philosophy will be concerning drafts, free agents, emphasis on offense etc. I know its a touchy subject because the draft is coming up but we deserve answers on why all this occurred during the Tanny regime. Was it him, the scouting department, Rex? If it was the scouting department what is going to be done there? Why haven't lessor non-productive members of the scouting department been let go and replaced by his guys. I know they can't let Bradway go or consider whether he needs to go until after the draft but down the food chain some changes were needed to signal that there's a new sheriff in town and the same ol Jets mentaliy isn't going to cut it. We got nothing but softball questions and fluff answers. We still don't know if Idzik is someone that deserves trust to do the right thing, unlike Jerry Reese who deserves praise for the work he's done with the Giants.
What do you estimate to be the difference between salary for Revis and Cro over their next contract, and do you think that difference won't be less than difference in skill/play?
