BTW Junc, with that post you confirmed that a team with a crappy QB can reach the championship....thanks for reinforcing a point
Here is the article I read about that on ESPN.com http://espn.go.com/blog/philadelphia-eagles/post/_/id/8879/kellys-offense-will-change-with-sanchez
he played well the first 2 weeks but a team can maybe win a game or 2 w/ a bad QB but4 in 2 years? beating the hottest team in the AFC on the road in the div rd each time? that's not a fluke,
Mark wasn't exactly great either in the 2013 exhibition season. He threw a pick 6 on the Jets opening drive vs. Detroit. And a red zone pick in the second game. He hadn't won the job even though the press assumed it would go to Mark. Who was an incumbent coming off of a terrible season.
It's smart that Chip changes some things and bases his offense around the strengths of his Qb and this is nothing against Mark. If you read the entire article it'll give his philosopy on basing an offense around the talent you have. They did the same thing for Foles.
Then it's not a fluke either that when he got to the championships he lost...right? Remember, you're the one who puts win/loss on QB's...I look at W/L as a team stat, not a QB stat....so we're using your criteria here. And it's also not a fluke that whenver Sanchez turned the ballover 20+ times the team was never better than 9-7 and was 8-8 or worse in 2 of the 3 years he did so?
or to put that another way Junc, in years that Sanchez turned the ball over 20+ times he was on total a sub .500 QB.
Just wanted it to be clear that Kelly is not now limited in his play calling because of Sanchez. If anything, more is available to Kelly now since Mark has the stronger arm and is the better thrower on the move.
Look you have to give Mark credit. He's coming off of a serious injury and was out for an entire season. He had to go through rehab, etc. The Eagles signed him. Kelly is one of the top offensive minds in football and he thinks Sanchez is a good player. Then Mark went to a new team and won the back up job so he must have shown them something. If he hadn't learned the offense and shown them something he would have been cut. There was no competition for the starting job because Foles was coming off of a Pro Bowl season. The head coach and the Eagles players are solidly behind Mark including Shady McCoy who is a tough cookie and doesn't throw out too many compliments. We'll see how Mark does.
Foles was not having a good year after being lights out last season. And he could be out for the year. But you make it sound like Mark is the better Qb. You forgot something: a league leading 52 turnovers and the lowest QBR in the NFL for the years he was a starter. But it's a great opportunity for Sanchez. If he does well he could win the job. We'll see.
how did he do rest of his career? Todd: 4 playoff games, 1 home, 3 road 78-140, 1026 yds, 4 TDs, 12 INTs led O to 20.3 PPG Jets D forced 17 turnovers in the 4 games, 4.3 per game Sanchez: 6 playoff games, all on road 95-157, 1155 yds, 9 TDs, 3 INTs led O to 20 PPG Jets D forced 8 turnovers in 6 games, 1.3 per game despite getting 3 more TOs per GAME averaged basically the same amount of pts scored and that was mostly b/c of one game in Cincy which included a Freeman McNeil TD pass.
wonder what this thread would like if Sanchez goes to lead the Eagles to their 1st Super Bowl victory in franchise history this year...
Ugh…RIF…I said more of the playbook would be available because Mark has a stronger arm to attack further down the field and can throw on the move better so you can use bootlegs and roll out plays like the game winning TD. At NO POINT did I make it seem like Mark is the better QB. It's the hate eating away at your brain cells causing your reading comprehension to go astray.
He had a shoulder injury that went undiagnosed. His worst interceptions that year were way late and way soft. Even defenders of Mark like myself were boggled. I'm not saying without the injury he plays even to an 80 QB Rating. I'm saying it's the reason he looked HORRIBLE on a bunch of throws, notably the TN game.
Then all of you guys can say you were right and that the Jets "ruined" Mark. Fuck, you're saying he's great after one exhibition game!
Don't worry I'm sure Sanchez will give you plenty of opportunities to get your ceilings sticky in the weeks to come. "Ahh...he just fumbled…ohh ohh ohh...a pick...sweet Jesus here I come….pick six…somebody hold me"
