So just to be clear, the Jets need a game manager so you suggest they draft a guy who's only in the first day conversation because of his raw physical tools? If Ryan and the Jets had their hearts set on a game manager they would've gone after Jeff Garcia.

And for the record, I think it's a major misconception that the Jets coaching staff wants a game manager only. They'd love a pro bowler at QB--who wouldn't? They've just talked about having a run first offense because there was no spectacular QB option on the market. Until Cutler.

    You guys are right.

Funny that we're here arguing the merits of making the deal and how it will effect the team when really, our perspective is off. It's not so much function as it is the glamour of the QB position, the name of the player, and the media attention we get for making a big trade....

I would offer this year's 2nd, a good non-starter (maybe KC, not that they'd want him), and a 3rd next year that could escalate into a 1st. Anything more and we walk away from the table. Of course, I don't actually expect his price to be around there, but that's all I'd be willing to give up for him, personally.

Two very good points. We could have jeff Garcia for cheap who is the definition of game manager. The guy doesnt turn the ball over. The only reason our coaching staff says that they want a game manager is because there is noone on the roster capable of being a star(that they have seen) and after favre and all of his dumb interceptions at the end of the year it cost us the playoffs

so in other words, you prefer "same old, same old jets". just more of the past. time for a bold move(not talking favre, either) to put this franchise on the right track.

one would think with that other qb in this division, we're never going to get over the hump with them until we find us a qb that can bring this team back on a game winning drive. how many times do you have to see us come up short to realize we need that kind of qb????

In games where the Broncos have allowed 21 points or fewer, Cutler is an impressive 13-1, and that only loss was to Green Bay in 2007 when the Packers won the coin toss and Brett Favre threw an 82-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime.

I saw this stat on espn.com before. If not for Favres prayer in OT when he was on the packers, Cutler would have been undefeated when his D held the opponent to 21 or under. Hmm..with our revamped defense im pretty sure we will hold alot of people under 21 points

Everything about Cutler is screaming Jeff George. And I really think Ratliff is gonna be a good one but then again what do I know?

Anyway, a 1, 2, and Harris is OK as long as its a #2 next year. I think Harris can be replaced. He wasnt as explosive last year due to injury and that may have a long lasting effect. We got over Vilma (well, most of us) and we will get over Harris.

Why would you want a game manager when you can have a star QB? No coach can pass that up at the right price.

"I think he's (Bart Scott) going to be more effective with this Jets defense because we're going to have flexibility with him and David (Harris) that, quite honestly, we never really had with Ray," Ryan said.

Does this sound like a HC that will allow Harris to be traded?

Well I wasnt thinking about that but yeah he would be a serviceable replacement. I think a big thumper LB has a better chance to succeed in a 3-4 than an ordinary LB MLB 4-3, and there's some guys out there that would do well playing behind Jenkins and next to Scott.

You know if we go hard after Cutler its all Woody at that point (no pun intended). I bet Rex wouldn't get a vote because it's more of a business decision now.

ever notice just about all the losing teams fans are always screaming for the backup qb to get his chance to play the games. that;s why they're losers!
i myself just can't see this team becoming a winner with a 2nd or third string qb.

to be a franchise that contends for titles, you have to have a good defense and good offense. and we're not going to beat the manning or brady teams with a clemens or ratliff...

Clemens id agree with. Ratliff dont be so sure this boy can play the game and has the size to do so.

you are probably right.. I am hopeful that Rex can add some football sense to the discussions since Woody and Tanny aren't true "football guys".

He looked poised and stood his ground, when the pocket collapsed he knew what to do with the ball. He also has a strong arm. What made anyone think Clemens was the next great QB when it was decided he was the starter?
