That's a little But out there. His first 12 starts are comparable to a lot of good QB's this year and better than the class he came in with, even with the lack of accuracy. Just because he doesn't hit every pass doesn't mean he can't get the job done. He has done, now do I think he will get that chance no, but one never knows. I think Mac will be fine, as long as the run game supports him. There are many QB's that need that to work.
If I'm understanding the question correctly, I'll answer it this way: I think his windup/mechanics are the single biggest problem he faces, and that if he cannot improve in that area, he cannot be an NFL quarterback. I have no disagreement with people who view Tebow as problematic at the NFL level due to his mechanics. I believe his so-called "lack of accuracy" is a result of the mechanics -- because he throws very accurate balls on long throws, slower developing plays. His inaccurate throws come when his mechanics are out of wack, on the quicker throws. It's serious -- but it seems to me like (1) it's something that can be improved, as many more before him have done overhauls of their mechanics, and (2) it has improved. He's a better "thrower" now than he was in college. Cam Newton could not hit the broad side of a barn when he was at Florida. No kidding. Dead serious. He took his game to the next level by serious mechanical improvement. I agree the hour is getting late for Tebow's mechanics to improve, but that should be the discussion, in my book. Not, "he was carried by his teammates," not "He never was that good," Not "he's never passed the ball efficiently." Stick to the mechanics argument, and a Tebow detractor has go the better side of it every day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's one of the things that is intriguing about him -- that he's got a deficiency that most people say is fixable. QB Guru George Whitlock has said every one of Tebow's mechanical issues is fixable.
That's the problem right there. Everything he has working for him really can't be taught. Everything working against him IS fixable. Yet... it remains to be seen when or if it actually gets fixed. It's one thing to dismiss defensive performace for carrying him and such. ...or pretending that this is just a young buck going through his growing pains like even most of the greats went through. The thought from his supporters was that eventually that part of his game would eventually catch up. However, it hasn't, and teams don't want to toss him in there waiting until lord knows when for him to finally get his passing game to catch up with where it needs to be. He's gonna have to figure that out on his own, and do it soon. Ahhh well, 4 more weeks and Tebow's career with the Jets will be pretty much over when hes's released a couple months later.
YOU still do not get it. I and the other JETS fans on this board don't fear rejection from Teblowmaniacs moving on, we welcome it, pine for it, can't wait for it. The last thing I am looking for is attachment to Tebow as a player and a desire to be "friends" with the Teblowmaniacs. Four more games and a few weeks of playoffs and he and all of you will be gone. That is what most Jets fans want. We don't care what you people think about our team and our players. As for Tebow the player, franchise QBs or QBs with potential do not play for three teams in three seasons. That is Tebow's coming fate. Pro personnel offices make mistakes, but not mistakes of that magnitude. The entire NFL knows that Tebow is NOT a future starting QB, let alone a franchise QB. That is why he is constantly fighting for playing time and is traded for low round draft picks. It has to tell you and his other cult members something that a team with severe QB and offense troubles like the Jets won't even give him the ball. Look, he appears to be a great person and I have nothing against him personally. But he will go down in NFL history as one of many great college QBs that were not suited to the pro game. Add in the distractions that he and his cult bring, and it is just not worth whatever it is that he adds to a team ( and I can't figure out what that is yet). The pro game is too sophisticated and too complicated and too fast and too filled with skilled players on defense to put a seriously flawed player like Tebow at the game's most important position. Good luck next year with the Jaguars (or fill in the next destination) and their fans.
More than a wee bit homophobic are we? By "we" are you implying you have a mouse in your pocket? Being of NDN desent, I always liked the phrase "What do you mean we, white man?" You use the name Joe Willie as your avatar, I happen to be a fan of Joe Willie and followed his years at Alabama along with a fellow classmate of mine at Florida by the name of Steve Spurrier. I tried to keep up with both of their carriers but a war got in my way. Later I met Joe Willie down in Ft. Lauderdale at his bar Bachelor's 3. Where were you in '69 when he won the SB? Me, I was on my way to Quang Nam Province, Republic Of. I see you are also suffering from a bad case of MSU (Makes Shit Up). Correction this is his second team in three years and he was traded for Peyton Effing Manning. Give me a break, several teams in the league including the NYJ would have traded their first born children for Peyton Effing Manning. Oh really, what do you call their blind devotion to Mark over the last four years? He's been messing where he sleeps for the past two years and they gave him an extension with a big fat bonus. I consider that a mistake of enormous magnitude. Probably the biggest mistake of any NFL FO for the past two or three years. "Professionals are predictable but the world is full of amateurs" and the NYJ FO is a prime example. The severe QB and offense troubles pale in comparison to the three ring circus of the NYJ FO. Correction, Rex benched the most seriously flawed player on this team in the third quarter of last Sunday's game. It appears that this game is "too complicated and too fast" for your million dollar baby.
You seem to have become infected with MSU yourself. The Broncos never TRADED for Peyton Effing Manning. Peyton Manning was RELEASED BY THE COLTS back in March so Indy would avoid paying him a $28M roster bonus. After being courted by several teams, Denver signed him as a FREE AGENT. John Elway traded away Timmy for a half-eaten, day-old baloney sandwich to get rid of him and the whole Tebowmania headache because he's no friggin' good...
I do know that -- how could it be any other way? That's why it sounds so pathetic -- every time you type "Wah, you're going to leave," understand that we've seen that 1,000 times. Ask yourself "Do I really want to type "Wah, you're going to leave us" again? Do I want to be the guy that says that? I guess it comes from a desire to lash out, to hurt -- take my advice, it doesn't. It really kind of has the opposite effect.
This thread is about whether Tebow or McElroy should start to get a win versus JAX on Saturday. How does the "entire NFL" feel about McElroy as a "franchise QB?" Everything about Tebow has to be of such epic proportions. Sometimes it's as simple as "the guy's been working and improving, give him a shot," just like the case that's being made for McElroy. Not everything has to be a vindication or condemnation of all that's gone before. Tebow's been a winning starting in this league. Some consideration is warranted.
Let's continue to beat the dead horse just a bit more. This is why Denver sent Tim on down the road. You have all these folks who are Tebow fans and not Jets fans who will be gone the moment Tim is gone. Which I honestly believe will be at the end of the season, thank you God, no pun intended.
Point taken. I am not the least bit homophobic. In fact, I have a close family member who is gay and I strongly support gay rights and equality and abhor gay slurs . It was a poor choice of words and has been corrected. This is a bit presumptuous and over the top on your part. By "we" it is clear that I meant long time Jets fans and not any racial or ethnic group. I know I don't speak for "all" Jets fans, but the dozens I know personally and many others on this board feel the same way I do about Tebow and his fans, so I am not alone with regard to the thoughts in my prior post that you are attacking. Read the threads in this section of the board and you will see many posts expressing the sentiment that numerous Jets fans did not want Tebow to be a Jet, do not want him as the QB of the Jets, and want him to be elsewhere next season. That is all I meant. Let's not make this out to be more than a football discussion, please. I respect your service in the Vietnam war. And I can't help that you are one of the many few posters on this board that is older than me. However, you know nothing about me. I have been a Jets fan since 1966 when I was 7 years old. I went to a Jets game for my 7th birthday and never looked back. I followed his entire career and he is my favorite athlete. I watched every play of SB III on my family television and can remember almost every game Namath played as a Jet. His picture hangs on the wall of my office. So let's count that as a swing and a miss on your part. OH, and by the way, when Namath left the Jets and became a Ram in 1977, I wished him well and hoped he succeeded, but I remained a Jets fan and the QB of my team became Richard Todd. I did not follow Namath, or any other single player, around at any point of my life as a fan. I have quite a bit invested in this team. I am a die hard fan and having watched and suffered through virtually every game since 1966. I have had season tickets since 1980, through three stadiums now and a financial investment of over $100,000. So I feel I have earned the right to speak my piece as a Jets fan. You? I am not making anything up. I am predicting (and hoping) that Tebow will not be here next season. That will make three teams in three seasons. And he was not traded for Manning. He was traded for a 4th round draft pick. And Manning was brought to Denver because Elway knew Tebow was not an NFL QB and needed to find a way to get Tebow out of Denver and bringing Manning in as a free agent provided the mechanism. This thread is not about Sanchez. You can go to the Jets area of the board and find dozens of threads discussing Sanchez. The issues I raised with regard to Tebow have nothing to do with Sanchez, except that with all the troubles and failings Sanchez has displayed this year, Tebow still can't beat him out or get a whiff of the starting job and it appears that he has just been passed by McElroy. What does that say about Tebow? As for the Jets FO, I agree that their performance has been abysmal, but bringing Tebow here was one of their biggest blunders. I agree that the Jets are a circus this year, but Tebow is one of the main attractions in that circus and the Jets would have smart to avoid the circus that he brings to whatever town Tebow comes to. If the Jets are a three ring circus, Tebow is the main attraction in the side shows. And that I could have done without. And I believe Tebow's presence and all the ridiculous attention it gets played a large part in Sanchez' downfall this season. This response is already too long and the Sanchez issue has been debated to death in the Jets section. All I can say is that Tebow remains below him on the depth chart (to this point) for a reason.
I asked the same thing and not one Tebow fan answered my question. Like I said before, when Tebow is cut in in 2013 they will be gone like cockroaches when the lights are turned on.
Not if the league thinks the Broncos won more in spite of him than because of him. The way he's treated around the league, where 2 teams offered a 4th, and little else... I am confused why such a "winner" doesn't seem to warrant that consideration around the league, even by the team that gave up that pick for him. Not even the team he WON with him thought it was a good idea to keep him on the roster. couldn't seem to get rid of him fast enough. I know they got Manning, but you mean to tell me a guy who can WIN in this league couldn't sit behind Manning? You're too dependent on the fact that games were won with him in the lineup to make your case that Tebow deserves another shot. Fact is, the guys that see him every day tend to disagree with you. Guess they're seeing a LOT more to the winning last year than Tim Tebow. His groupies are the ONLY ones that think it was him.
.....And most likely they will root strongly AGAINST the Jets in 2013! And they wonder why Jets fans aren't so welcoming to them..... At least we know Dolfag/Pats/Bills, etc. fans are just supporting their team all along when they talk smack against the Jets and Jets fans. They won't someday jump fanbases because of one guy, or someday act like Jets fans. I have more respect for that, and I think most NFL fans would agree with me.
I don't think respect is something people are concerned with on the Internet and on an online forum. This is the reason there are trolls. I enjoy debating topics and learning football from others, but respect is not something most people that come to a forum look for.
Maybe respect is the wrong word, but there has been a lot of tebow fans that have bitched and moaned since March 2012 - about their treatment or interaction from Jets' fans and Jet fan moderator's of this site, so those individuals obviously are looking for something more than just debate ..
Yes that was a poor choice of words. "Replaced" would have been a better choice. Once PM was on board it was obvious that Elway couldn't/wouldn't (you take your pick) work the differing offensive schemes that would be necessary to take advantage of the differing skill sets of PM and TT. Yes my train is rapidly hurtling towards senility but on the bright side, I get to meet new people and make new friends each night when I get home.
With all the respect to your mod power at this place, you are repeating a self fulfilling prophecy. Saying some of Jets fans like 'cockroaches' is really unsportsmanlike conduct.
