Our supporting cast for a young QB (other than WR) is the best it's been in about 10 years. Good young OL, good RBs, good young TE. And WR will almost certainly be addressed by the time a young QB takes the field. As far as Engstrand goes, he's been pretty good. I haven't been completely blown away but I think it's clear he's at least competent. Wide receivers are open and we're #3 in the league in yards per rush. I've seen a lot more good than bad from Engstrand.
Yeah I mean I’m not defending the defense as much as it sounds like I am, but it hasn’t been as bad as it seems. The offense has put them in a lot of shitty spots. They’ve definitely had some bad moments but they gave up 13 points to the Broncos and Panthers. 22 to the Buccaneers (Tyrod pick-6 doesn’t count against them). They gave up 10 points on short fields giving up under 40 yards to the Dolphins due to turnovers and some short fields to the Bills and Steelers. Again, not good, but not as bad as it seems.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2026/...-first-round-predictions-32-picks-matt-miller Matt Miller’s first mock has us trading both our first round picks and a 2027 2nd rounder for the first overall pick and taking Mendoza. No thanks. Completely defeats the purpose of making those trades. Edit: with the real kicker being that Simpson is still on the board with our original pick in his mock. Idiotic.
I have read in more than one article that DM is enamored with Mendoza. If he really wants Mendoza and wants to trade up to get him then this suggested trade isn't really bad considering the Jets keep all 3 first rounders next year in what appears to be a better class of talent. But DM better be right in his assessment. HOWEVER if the Jets were to stay put and Simpson falls into their lap I'd be happy too. Some mocks show Simpson being taken by the Browns who currently are #4. Regardless, I believe the Jets should take a swing at QB in '26. By waiting until '27 they are not only kicking the can down the road but I think it stalls the rebuild. Besides as mentioned above there's nothing saying the Jets can't take a QB again in '27. Once and for all they have to get their QB and get it right!
Ok, Matt Miller is clearly a fool. NO ONE burns that kind of capital on a mid-range QB out of Indiana. If Peyton Manning were on the board, maybe but, umm...no. I'd throw my NY Jets fandom in the trash before Roger's words finished hitting the podium desktop.
Getting it "right" stats with NOT drafting a late 1st/2nd round talent at the top of the draft by blowing a butt load of draft capital to move UP when he's barely worth moving BACK to get. DM?? Who is this? Am I getting old?
I don't know the answer, but I hope it works out for the Jets. I know the next two drafts will be exciting to watch.
Well from what I've read - and I haven't even watched one of his games so I can't really say how good I think he is or isn't - Mougey seems very intrigued with Mendoza. With all the draft capital in hand it sounds like he will be moving up to secure him if need be. And if he gives away a couple of high picks to do that he better be right... But it could all be a smoke screen who knows....it's a long way off. So much can change in 6 months with the draft.
I don’t know if/what it means anything more than doing a good job with due diligence. But he has attended 3 Indiana games in person. Glad to hear he’s doing that but I’d be lying if I said I know how often GM’s do/don’t attend games. I’d guess they have the ability to talk to people in the building about the player though which is good.
