THEY SUCK ASS AND WILL FOLD AS USUAL!! All NEW ENGLAND Teams SUCK or cheat to get to SUCKcess.... THE RED SUCKS will fall because they must face the YANKEES Enjoy the HOLLOW victory!
Well, as someone who was invited to Yankee Stadium to try out as an undrafted player out of high school (and I would swear to God on my two kids lives that is true) - the scouts there treated me really good, although I really sucked that day. Why can't Yankee fans show the same class (or most of them) as the organization they root for?
Hideo Nomo, Kazuhiro Suzaki, and Ichiro Suzuki would pretty much prove you wrong that Japanese players who have played in NPB can't win Rookie of the Year. Thanks for trying though. Matsui lost because Berroa had a better year in the eyes of the voters. It's not like Matsui put up these ridiculous numbers and was denied because he played in Japan. And you're right, all my "gubberish" probably does make me sound like a two year old. If you're going to try to insult someone's intelligence or clarity, you look like a total fool when you make simple spelling, grammar, and typing errors while doing so.
You can, if you like, but you'd be supporting a flawed point. Fine. Until this year, he'd only faced a handful of hitters with American League talent. Worked on shorter rest than he ever had. And, yes, he's a rookie. He threw a half dozen games where he pitched lights-out and had zero run support, which cuts two ways: you lose the game and you also get frustrated. EDIT: Actually, devil says it all much better than I did. Daisuke has two real problems that I see. First, there's no question that he tires at the end of a long season. Second, he loses the plate for one entire inning every game he throws. I don't know how you fix either of those, but he's a 20 game winner in this league.
Any run support? Dice k got alot f wins b/c he had a ton of run support. he was mostly average the first half when he built up most of his wins then was brutal the 2nd half. There were a few games he pitched well and didn't get a W but that was more than made up for w/ poor performances where he did get the W. Why should Sox fans be upset they won the division? They were on the verge of blowing their big lead but did not. to me it shows some character that w/ all that went wrong they managed to put it together at the right time and hold of the Yanks. Let's worry about the ALDS first, both teams have tough 1st rd matchups. He's eligible but it's a joke he's even in the discussion. He has no shot to win ROY.
That's not right, junc. There are really only two games where he got a "ton" of run support and didn't deserve the win. Compare that with the number of games where he lost with support of two runs or less. It's not close. I agree.
Through May there were only 4 games where he got less then 7 runs a start in support. After May he didn't get nearly as much but he still lost 5 games where he got 5 runs or more. 04/05 BOS @KC W 4-1 1-0 04/11 BOS SEA L 0-3 1-1 04/17 BOS @TOR L 1-2 1-2 04/22 BOS NYY W 7-6 2-2 04/27 BOS @NYY W 11-4 3-2 05/03 BOS SEA W 8-7 3-2 05/09 BOS @TOR W 9-3 4-2 05/14 BOS DET W 7-1 5-2 05/19 BOS ATL W 13-3 6-2 05/25 BOS @TEX W 10-6 7-2 05/30 BOS CLE L 4-8 7-3 06/05 BOS @OAK L 0-2 7-4 06/10 BOS @ARI L 1-5 7-5 06/16 BOS SF W 1-0 8-5 06/22 BOS @SD W 2-1 9-5 06/27 BOS @SEA L 1-2 9-5 07/03 BOS TB W 4-1 10-5 07/08 BOS @DET L 5-6 10-6 07/14 BOS TOR W 9-4 11-6 07/19 BOS CHW L 2-4 11-7 07/24 BOS @CLE W 1-0 12-7 07/29 BOS @TB L 2-5 12-8 08/04 BOS @SEA W 4-3 13-8 08/10 BOS @BAL L 5-6 13-8 08/15 BOS TB L 5-6 13-9 08/22 BOS @TB L 1-2 13-10 08/28 BOS @NYY L 3-5 13-11 09/03 BOS TOR W 13-10 14-11 09/08 BOS @BAL L 5-11 14-12 09/14 BOS NYY L 7-8 14-12 09/22 BOS @TB W 8-6 14-12 09/28 BOS MIN W 5-2 15-12
It doesn't work to show just final scores, unless you break it down further into his run support vs. relief run support. But, working with what you posted, I'm referring to a different set of numbers than you are. Junc's point was that he won a bunch of games that he didn't deserve because he a he got "a ton" of run support. You need to look at the other column to see that, the games where he GAVE UP a lot, and also GOT a lot are few and far between. And that's the real point. The statistics don't bear it out that Daisuke won a bunch of games undeservedly.
You can cut stats up to do what ever you want them to.... at the end of the day he didn't live up to the hype IMO...
He may have had a fine year, but like ollie said, you would think he was a can't miss pitcher who was going to take the American League by storm with a 3.6 ERA. That's just the impression that we got with the "once in a generation" quotes and the expectations from the fans.
Too much value placed on Pitcher Wins in this thread. The guy had some nasty peripherals and if his arm becomes more durable, he'll be even better.
I agree it doesn't show relief breakdowns but if he leaves with the lead he can't get the loss. For that reason I didn't mention the three games they scored 8 runs or more and he had a no decision. Tack on runs don't show either but there isn't much I can do about that with the site I saw these stats.
Through August 10th he had a 3.59 ERA. Then he hit the wall since he wasn't used to pitching that much. He was also among the leaders in strikeouts and wins at the time. During that time he also lost 5 games where he gave up 2 or fewer runs, going 6 innings once and 7 or more in the others. He had a 13-8 record, but with the support could have easily been as good as 18-3 in August. Through 8/10 he pitched very well for the most part. Overall, in 11 of his starts he got 2 or fewer runs of support. During June, July, and the first two starts in August he had a 2.53 ERA, but was only 6-5 in 13 starts. If a pitcher has a 2.53 ERA through 13 starts, you would expect them to be something like 10-3, not 6-5. And junc, I agree he shouldn't win ROY, but he most certainly is eligible. Pedroia is probably going to win it. Either him or Young. Run support breakdown found here- http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/gl.cgi?n1=matsuda01&year=2007&t=p
