I don't disagree with anything you've said. I was looking strictly at the number of different WRs and TEs that Brady had to adjust to throwing to. Of course, you're spot on that a lot of those passes were short and easier to complete, and with the rest of your points. I was just trying to show that having a lot of different WRs over a QBs first 2-3 seasons doesn't matter as much as the quality of those WRs, so having to adjust to a lot of different targets may not hurt Sam. What may hurt him is that most of the targets he's had to throw to were at best limited, and at worst were pretty bad, if not downright awful.
I am concerned now with Mims and Perriman both still being out. I thought Gase said both would be back by now. That is not good. Kickoff is literally less than 2 weeks away!
Mims is a lost cause this season IMO. He’s a rookie that will have missed all of camp and had no OTAs or a preseason. Expecting anything out of him at this point is just setting yourself up for disappointment. The big issue is Gase though Perriman would be out for one day. Then it turned into 5. That means it’s not a simple “Swelling” injury like he’s been saying.
All the injuries have been tough, especially at WR. As much as I love Mims, I'm glad that it's been he that has been injured and not Becton. Davis could be huge for us both on STs and on D. Of course, I'd prefer to have Mims out there every day, but he's a hard worker and has a lot of experience as a WR. I think he'll be fine once his hammy heals. The injury will perhaps limit what he could have done his rookie season, but hopefully, Perriman gets back in a day or two, stays healthy and plays like he did at the end of last season from now on. With Perriman, Crowder, Herndon, Griffin, Bell, Gore, Perine, and maybe even Wesco and Smith (later in the season), Sam should have plenty of targets. If Campbell continues to improve and Cager comes back soon, things could be a lot better than we think at the moment. Of course if Perriman continues to be out and struggles with injuries all season, and Mims never gets on track, it could be a long season.
Eh I guess. I just think the Patriots example is a bit of an outlier. Peyton Manning's supporting skill position cast barely changed his first three years. Aaron Rodger's cast didn't change at all in his first three years. Roethlisbergers #2 receiver is the only one that really changed. Eli threw to Toomer + Plaxico for like his first 5 seasons. Shockey left after 4. Philip Rivers only saw a rotation at his #2 spot. Continuity is even more important for quarterbacks and receivers in the modern day NFL. Less training camp, this year - no OTA's, and more freedom for quarterbacks and receivers to check to the right play bases on the coverage. They have to be in sync. Changing over Mark Sanchez entire skill position group is what sunk him after he finally made progress. It's the only reason I wanted to keep Robby Anderson. But you're also right - the talent has been awful which hurts it even more.
This seriously feels like the days of refreshing twitter hoping to see that Geno actually had a good practice and the offense moved well.
Bell split wide?! Holy shit. Never knew he was capable. He’s barely done this throughout his pro bowl career.
It’s time to start doing a deep dive into this coaching staff top to bottom. This shit isn’t normal. No other team is dealing with this bullshit.
