Why would we trade our 3rd round pick to get an extra 5th round pick?

Maybe because more draft picks mean more players.

But don't ask me. I hear that Morgan Freeman is good with math.

Let's see, we need to replace 357 yds. of offense. Could always see if Jace Amaro is available.

at this point what would the TE we draft in the third and later this year be any different then the one we drafted last year? This team has more need honestly. Quincy comes back and could play that role if need.

With our 3rd round pick we could get a good, potentially very good player at a position of need (OL, RB, TE, DE). Players in the 5th round have a lot less chance of succeeding and in general aren't as talented or polished or have off-field issues. Mac traded down several times last year to add some additional 5th round picks. How did that work out? Especially since we don't have a 2nd round pick, we need to get a good player with our 3rd round pick, not trade down and miss out on a really good player like we stupidly did last year and miss out on another Kamara.

They like Sterling too, who has the potential to start. I'd guess him and Leggett battle to start, with Tomlinson being the guy who becomes the extra linemen/ blocking TE/FB. Sterling has the athleticism to be a threat down the seams

Agreed. Especially if you can find an OL who can start sooner than later. We need to protect our new QB.

I might bump TE over RB though. Bates system utilizes 2 TE quite a bit and I don't think we're scaring anyone with our collection of misfits at that position. The RB group at least is competent.

I am completely fine with taking the best available Olineman in the 3rd round as well, but if Leggett didn't show that he was ready for a larger role, I would think a TE in the 3rd round might be necessary. That position seems like a glaring weakness.

With ASJ and Morton gone I expect the Jets to fall back in to not throwing to the TE ever again mode. Let's see what we have in Leggett because the rest of the TE's on the roster are blockers. They also might be able to pick up a serviceable one on final cuts.

Caveat: Your investment at a round 1 QB goes right down the toilet without addressing the OL

Mac has signed Dozier Qvale and Ijalana to buy time imo...plus Spencer Long at Center

This will be Macs pretzel logic ..by "refreshing" the OL but NOT Really improving it

I would be shocked if MM had the common sense to go after an OL in round 3 after years of putzing around and kicking the can

Who needs a TE ???...we signed Bucky Hodges's and Clive Walford..now just be content and stop yer bellyaching..heheheh

Oh look, I'm not on ignore. o_O

A team that lacks depth like the Jets can't afford to bank on a third round pick to be more valuable than multiple picks later in the draft, primarily since they gave up so much draft capital to move up.

When you trade up for need early , it makes more sense to trade down later for value, it's a numbers game. We need depth at so many positions that hanging your hat on a third rounder that very probably will just end up being another depth player isn't the smart play.

You can't just rely on FA to backfill your depth with retreads that have no upside.

This seems to be the typical falling in love with a very mediocre player thing. ASJ was ok, but by no means great or even very good
