This is finally an intelligent move by a team that has been trying to cheap it up at the QB position for years. Is it too little too late? We'll see. McNair is a better QB than the Ravens have ever had.
That's not saying much. If McNair starts, he'll be lucky to make it through half a season in one piece. I think this trade has all the makings of a controversy at QB, and when all is said and done, the Ravens will be no closer to reaching the playoffs than they were a year ago. Just my opinion of course....
What does any of this have to do with the Phinz???... It's just my own personal opinion. McNair is one of the most overrated QB's in the NFL in my opinion, and he will not make the Ravens a contender all by himself. The most TD's he's thrown in one season is 24, and that was when he was in his prime... Today, McNair is nothing special, and the Ravens are taking a huge gamble trading for him, along with giving him 11 million to sign. They must be either outrageously desperate, or just plain stupid.... I'm thinking they're both right about now....
from The Sporting News: McNair more than just a QB When Steve McNair takes the field today for his first practice with the Ravens, the team wants him to fill a void that has been missing since tight end Shannon Sharpe left Baltimore at the end of the 2001 season. The Ravens are desperate for an offensive leader, a role that former starting quarterback Kyle Boller never came close to filling. McNair, a veteran of 14 seasons, has the pedigree. He has the strong arm, the winning record, Pro Bowl accolades and a Super Bowl appearance. But most important for the Ravens, he has a presence that commands respect, and they want him to impose his strong will on the offense. The Ravens already have leaders on defense with linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed. That unit has dipped lower than No. 6 only one time since 1999. But in the same span, the Ravens' offense has ranked in the top 15 only once. The Ravens want McNair to be the equalizer to his close friend Lewis, which is why they gave McNair a five-year contract that included an $11 million signing bonus.
