It does matter. No one will ever remember us beating the 49ers in a loser game like this. What matters is being in a position to have the best draft picks possible and having the GM/FO execute on those picks. If we can get two studs in the first 2 rounds of this draft that will go a long way towards the rebuild.
The Jets need to go BPA available with their first two picks and take whatever QB they like the most out of Webb, Falk, and Mahomes in the middle rounds. you never know when a guy is gonna become a Carr/Cousins/Wilson/Prescott and it's good to have options.
Depending on Petty goes, I'm not sure they're going to be taking fade away forty footers on quarterbacks like that anymore. We did with Petty and Hackenberg. We really don't need anymore development prospects that are multiple years away, especially if they're going to coddle them away from the field for two years. We need to invest in a top calibre prospect. Watson is the only guy whom fits the bill of a winner, great intangibles, a guy with a big arm who can also run and seems to be able to step in right away.
I hate Clemson but Watson is the real deal....have been watching him since he was a freshman and I'm convinced he will be a star Great accuracy downfield
If Geno gets no offers and Petty plays like shit I would draft Watson at any and all costs and go with Watson and Geno for cheap with Hack as a shot in the dark Beef up the o-line and get a few good corners
I agree, outside of drafting a corner high. It's a losing formula to invest a ton of money or multiple high draft picks in cornerbacks that can be easily neutralized in spread NFL offenses. 'Elite' corners don't really shutdown top NFL receivers and so many offenses are building their squads around multiple receiving threats so one player doesn't make or break their offensive game plan. Look at how Stafford and the Lions offense has flourished without Megatron. Spread the ball around. I just hope we don't 'stay away,' in theory, of a potential top prospect because they took Hackenberg. If they rate Watson as the top player on their board, they need to take him.
Who cares if there's no QB in the draft this year. Tank this season anyway, trade out that high round pick for a high round pick next year.
Myles Garrett will go before us and there is no other pass rusher to take that high in the draft. As of right now we have no cornerbacks on our roster. Quincy Wilson and Desmond King might be worth considering. Watson is the same as Geno.
I don't agree at all. I see Watson actually looking over the field, whereas Geno was a clean one read and throw passer. I guess we'll see though. I see a slightly weaker arm, with much better field vision and he's shown somewhat of an ability to read a defense. Geno was almost exclusively throwing quick screens, crossing routes or faking the quick screen and throwing the deep fade. Watson throws a much wider array of routes, and effectively. As a result he's turned the ball over a bit more. Watson is also 30-3 as a starter, which includes the 5 games he played as a sophomore throwing more than 10 passes. Geno was 26-13 at WVU in a watered down conference. Watson also carved up the countries best defense on 30/47 (64%) for 405 yards, 4 touchdowns/1 interception and 73 rushing yards in the National Championship only to lose by 5. That defense had 4 players drafted, along with another 4-5 likely to be drafted this year. Geno got routed by Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl.
I would like Watson. But he will probably be the 1st QB taken. I wanna see what Hack can do if we aren't in position for Watson. Hack has the tools, just needs some work. But, Hack has the mind and stamina to play in NY. I think that is why Mac drafted him. We should take Cam Robinson or Derek Barnett in the 1st. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...ett-a-productive-but-polarizing-nfl-prospect/ ^^^ that's him as a sophomore. His best season was this year.
