To be honest I thought it should have been co-defensive players of the year between Matthews and Polamalu. Troy's value to this Steeler defense is very underrated and despite missing 2 games he was a difference maker this year. Tied for second in interceptions, one behind leader Ed Reed. You guys don't watch him week in and week out. His forced fumble of Joe Flacco in the second Steelers/Ravens regular season matchup swung the game Pittsburgh's way. Without that play, the Steelers are a 6th seeded wild card, probably play New England in round 2, and maybe don't make it this far. Both players would have been very deserving of the award, unlike last year when Woodson stole it from Revis.
Then he should win MVP, not DPOY. But this reflects a lot of my problems with these stupid awards. They never actually reflect or live up to their titiles.
Both Troy and Clay were near the top of the "qualifying" stats for their positions. Clay was like 3rd in sacks, Troy was 2nd in interceptions. Troy actually had a few more tackles. Both forced a fumble this year. Both are dynamic gamechanging players that both deserved to win. Hard to pick just one but the voters did.
