Wait and see, if we don't get our #1 or #2 QB, we won't take the 3rd best QB on the draft board. It will be Barkley if he is there. BPA, Mac has done this every draft. Mac knows Bridgewater is much much better moving forward with the rebuild than his 3rd choice at QB. You don't spend all that draft cap for the 3rd QB. That's stupid, even for a rookie GM.

I agree that there are two guys. Darnold and Allen in my mind, could be a combination of one of the two with Rosen though for Mac.

I also agree that Barkley or Chubb is the “ emergency plan” if both QBs we like happen to go 1 and 2, with a trade back not out of the question.

Well you never had any credibility to begin with your limited understanding. Do you not understand that Ryan Leaf was a far and away a superior prospect than Mayfield? As have been many, many, QB's that have never become anything in the NFL. Yet you some how know that Mayfield with his limited skill set is going to be a sure fire all pro. You're either really young and haven't heard this story enough times to figure it out, or you are just flat out clueless.

If that's really the case then why isn't he considered the absolute #1 overall pick? Only the very young, or very foolish will pretend that anyone of these players can't bust.

Wait and see, the Jets didn't move up if they didn't like at least 3 QBs. You're seriously retarded from an NFL perspective if you believe as such.

Wrong, we would have never moved up to begin with if we didn't like AT LEAST 3 QBs.

Yeah, banking on Bridgewater at this point is stupid, even for a rookie GM.

Bridgewater might not even be on the team at the start of the season.

    You guys crack me up.

The Jets traded up to #3, so they almost have to take a QB. That's just the way it works in 2018.
That said, all of this years QB prospects are overrated--even the one you think is underrated, whichever one that happens to be-- and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this draft isn't compared to the 1983 draft, but rather to the 2006 draft which netted the league all-time greats like Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, and Kellen Clemmons.

Saquan is worthy of the #3 pick overall. I can't find a single board that doesn't have him rated significantly higher than they had Fournette rated last year, and he was #4. But the Jets can't take him there. Not unless they have some secret information about Hack or Bridgewater being ready to compete for League MVP this season.

They simply have to take a flier on one of these QBs, even if they are all overrated.

Disagree about the QBs quality, but you're spot on why we have to/will take a QB.

No one with half a brain knows if Mayfield will be a quality NFL backup let alone a franchise QB. There isn't a QB in this draft who is Andrew Luck or John Elway. The Heisman, intangibles, Davey O'Brien awards and his phenomenal production in college is meaningless once he is actually playing at the next level. His arm, his smarts and his accuracy are all good. His height is a huge issue and his attitude may well be an issue. Neither of which may keep him from becoming a great NFL QB but might very well make him a bust at the next level.

All of these QB's are being hyped. They have agents, College's and the NFL media machine with a huge incentive to hype them. NFL ratings and ticket sales are tied to their hype even if they fail. Tickets and Jersey's are sold during the off season.

To say Mayfield isn't being hyped is total BS. Everyone of these guys are being hyped. There is a huge amount of money, branding and incentive by multiple parties to hype them.

Management ultimately gets to stick around if they can manage the hype and actually put a winning product on the field.

Darnold, Allen, Mayfield and Rosen all have very professional hype machines working for them and it's just getting started. After the draft it will be even more intense. The desperation for a single draft pick to be looked at by millions of fans of teams desperate to look like they are turning a corner has millions of dollars attached to it for these franchises and the league. The Carolina Panthers are being sold for 2.5 Billion dollars.

The reality is after all the noise and the money is counted it's the teams with the best management in place running their football operations who over time will kill it.

Barkley isn't being hyped? Anyways, a FQB is the most important player on an NFL team and there are multiple QB prospects who can become FQB's. Oh, and the Jets don't have a FQB now.

Sure any of them can bust, but that's very different than saying that Mayfield will bust as you have repeatedly.

Exactly they don't and that's the real issue. You have no clue if any of the QB's this year will become FQB's. This years group has proven less than last years group when we didn't have one and whiffed.

Can Mayfield bust? Sure, but saying that is very different than saying he will bust. Those are two very different things.

I disagree with a number of your points. Sure the Heisman and Davey O'Brien awards mean nothing in the NFL, but his intangibles, his heart, his competitive fire, his leadership absolutely do mean everything. You couldn't be more wrong about that. LOTS of players have become very good, if not great, in the NFL due to their heart, smarts and hard work, who were not considered to be anything special coming out of college. Conversely, LOTS of players who were thought to be sure fire great players in the NFL because of their talent and how they dominated competition in college, were meh, or didn't last in the NFL beyond a season or two because they didn't have the love for the game, the work ethic, or the smarts. His height (or lack thereof) will cause him some problems in the NFL, but not his attitude.

Mayfield has been hyped some, but not to the extent that Rosen and Darnold have. It's not even close. Even Allen has gotten a lot more hype than Mayfield, and Allen shouldn't even be in the conversation for a top 5 pick. He's the most likely of the group to be an utter bust.

Mayfield played on the big stage and won the Heisman. They fact that you listed his awards and his "Intangibles" as your personal bias on why he isn't being hyped shows that you have it backwards. He is with out a doubt the single most hyped player in this draft and it's not even close. Darnold, Rosen and especially Allen went to marginally successful college programs that for the most part, other than alumni have very little national attention this past year. Mayfield is the guy with all the "college" credentials and the guy from the one program that was nationally successful for practically 20 years.

My bias is his size and his punk like attitude. I like his arm, accuracy and intelligence. He's a good prospect. I hate drafting an undersized guy at 3. I would be very worried about Allen because we don't know much about him against good competition. I'm worried about Rosen concussion history and desire to compete but I think he's without a doubt much smarter than the every other guy and has a quality to his game that's I think is better than the other prospects. Darnold looks very solid and because of Rosen's concussion history and Mayfield's size should be the 1st guy taken.

I hope the Jets draft Allen.

Rosen has the highest floor, except for the fact the he may get medically retired in short order--which is maybe even worse than being a bust.

Mayfield and Darnold to me are interchangeable: they both show a lot of potential but have some serious hurdles to overcome or worked around. Darnold needs to change his throwing mechanics and his decision making, while Mayfield needs to learn how to play from under center, work through a progression that doesn't include 4 wide open targets, and get taller. Or the Jets will have to come up with work-arounds for their issues. It's quite possible for either of them to become NFL FQBs, possibly even elite ones, but their odds aren't great.

Allen is even less likely to succeed than Mayfield/Darnold, but if he lives up to his physical potential, he has a chance to be the best QB in the league.

What are the odds of Darnold busting? What are the odds of Mayfield becoming elite? Any one of us can look at these 4 guys and think one or two have a much better chance to fail/succeed than the others (I think we have about 11 threads about it right now), but I'm a pessimist: I think there's a good chance they all bust. That said, the Jets already traded up, and if you're going to buy a lottery ticket, you might as well go for the Jackpot.
