I agree with pretty much all of this, especially that I also have that SOJ guy inside my head, but as I look at the team and the way it ended last season, the holes the FO seems to have gone along way to filling... Yes, injuries can do this team in, as they can any team, but other than that, the prospects are great. Only thing I would add is that many of the posts here did not speak to the OP's article, which was really as much about how the Pats have not been doing what they need to to stay on top, and in fact seem to be in slow but definite decline. Welker being out (for how long?) will really kill them, and their D lost a lot of smart veterans going into last year that still have not been replaced. They could finish third in the division, although I still think Miami is pretty weak on D, and they could finish behind the Pats. Jets as AFC East favorites? I think so, despite that SOJ guy.
Our team is STACKED much higher then a majority of other NFL teams this year. If you look up and down our roster compared to the Patriots for example, it doesn't even look fair. Not saying were gonna go 14-2 and they are gonna go 6-10 because no games are played on paper but in terms of who has the better overall talent, its not even close. This may be the best Jets team ever assembled. Were not over hyped, we deserve this based on the team we are about to field in 2010. I would HOPE we are considered and believe that we are contender. We probably will not have this much proven talent going into 2011 so we better make this year count. I'm sick and tired of watching the Jets get bullied around by the Pats like we have for the past 10 years. Now is our time to hit them in the mouth and show them the little brother in "their" division has grown up and is ready to take over. The playing grounds are much more balanced maybe favorably in our direction unlike the past. Fuck this I can see us sweeping the Pats, its very possible based on talent. Confidence is everything and if you don't got confidence, you don't got shit.
I'm pretty sure its been beaten to a dead horse on this site that Holmes and Edwards are in a contract year, and the better of the 2 will receive an extension.... I agree that how dominant we will be relies on Sanchez's ability to limit turnovers and occasionally drive down the field. The running game still needs to be in the top 5 in the league, but I have complete faith that will happen despite Faneca being cut. Sanchez proved to us last year he can handle big pressure games in the NFL, and that was the best thing for all of us to see IMO.
Don't expect a Super Bowl, and enjoy the ride. This should be the best defense in football, and the offense may have improved a lot as well. There's a lot of turnover on this roster. Some of it may not work, and we 2011-2012 may be the big real. Sanchez is the biggest key though. Nobody else. If he goes to being an average QB who can limit turnovers, the Jets don't have to worry about Indianapolis or Cincinnati laying down in the last two games because they should be good enough to survive.
You can't compare their seasons unless one just totally sucks. It's like comparing Fitzgerald and Boldin. They will have different roles to play in the offense and it won't be obvious who is better.
Hope the NFL is still playing football in 2011-2012. I would like to see the Vegas odds on that. I would bet they aren't very good.
They are absolutely going to grade them against each other, but they won't be graded on the same criteria. Edwards has to prove that he really has gotten over his drop issues because he showed he improved last year. Holmes has to prove he can get over smoking pot and being a better citizen off the field. You can say the same for Edwards, but I think he proved last year he will be OK. Both of them need to have some mental issues, but they are totally different. They do have different roles in the passing game, so whoever is more successful in that role, combined with who improved their mental game too, I feel will get the contract. It would be awesome if we could keep both, but with all the core pieces needing to be resigned soon I just don't see that happening.
