To each their own. Even though I'm not a long suffering fan like some here are, I believe the SOJ stigma will not be removed by just reaching the Super Bowl. Need to win it all like the Cubs did 2 years ago.
That's fair, because at that point you have AFC Championship and you know that you can at least cross the Super Bowl threshold. To me, I just wouldn't know what to do with myself. How unbelievable and impossible it would be. Taking it all in during the two weeks before the Super Bowl. The Jets being the talk of the nation. All of NY captivated. It would just be like the biggest two week high and adrenaline rush of our lives.
I don't see this time rising anywhere near the top under Bowles; when it comes to taking chances and playing to win, he's at the extreme opposite end of the spectrum from successful coaches like Pedersen and Belechick. You can't win it all with a coach whose instinct is to punt on 4th and short when two scores down, late in the 4th quarter, in his own territory.
I think #3 will be impossible. The Jets looked really sloppy last game. granted it was garbage time and the 4th preseason game. But come on there should be some resemblance of coming together. It is actually a game that many have played for years. I blame 30% of that on the player but the rest is solely on Bowles and his coaching staff. This is not a rookie head coach and he himself has been around the game for decades. I have never seen the type of progress from the Jets that would make me say yeah we are gonna wreck some stuff this year. Not in the Bowles era.
Boozer. Sadly I totally agree. Deep down inside I cant help but think the biggest inhibitor to real progress continues to be our HC. No real development of players what so ever in the Defensive side of the ball and stupid penalties galore. Biggest improvement going forward might very well be a much needed change at a HC and D.C.
For Xmas I'am asking Chris Kringle to send the NY Jets a new HC who can coach brilliantly and hire a excellent staff.. If the Holidays coincide with a Bowles Movement can we dupe a Sean McVay?,,Please Santa!!
Bates and Dennison as OC and Oline Coach/Run game coordinator will give us a sneaky good offense this year. Also have to take into account Darnolds intelligence and work ethic, and his natural talents. We do not have the typical rookie QB situation. I'm really confident and excited about this O...but the D. I mean you have Bowles who is supposed to be a defensive (specifically secondary) specialist and all I've ever seen from our defenses during his tenure here is underachieving, blown coverage, lack of adjustments. Some instances of outright quitting (Revis/Mo WIlk) It's very disheartening. I just hope Bowles lets Bates/Darnold/Dennison do what they do and not interfere
Should be a fun season. Looking forward to watching the QB. They should be able to score points in spite of problems on the OL. Defense lacks a speed rusher but making the opponent go long field more often should be a help. Mistakes on specials and the bouncing of the ball always decide a few game for teams that have average talent. Big cap space and a good draft should fix that problem next year. Playoffs would be nice.
We not only need a new head coach (badly!!!), but we need a GM that understands that games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage, damn it!! Now 4 drafts for Mac the Nuts and we still have a piece of shit offensive line and absolutely no pass rush. Dumb dips!!
"Expectations are resentments waiting to be born". That said, if as fans we didn't expect our team to do well, why bother rooting? So resentment has become an annual outcome rooting for the Jets. But it's a new season! So new expectations! Here's my list of what I need to see: 1. Darnold stays healthy and proves he's the FQB he seems to be. 2. Bowles shows he's learned his lessons about game management, time outs, and taking reasonable risks on offense to win games, not just "lose close". 3. The vaunted "superstars" Williams and Adams play up to their billing and actually make significant impact - some sacks for Williams and some picks for Adams. 4. That Bowles and his CS make whatever adjustments are needed to have the players he's got succeed. If that means going to a 4-3 on defense for example because that's the best for the personnel he has then so be it. I'm sick and tired of seeing coaches (Bowles) force-fit guys into their preferred scheme rather than developing schemes to fit the players you have. In the end, I'm hoping for 7+ wins, but I expect 5.
I just can't see Bowles getting the Jets to where they need to be. I have no idea what kind of defense he runs and I also know one thing it does not make any adjustment at all. How is that allowed to happen and these people keep their jobs. he had great talent on the defensive side and yet they didn't dominate. Now it will be even worst with lesser talent and the same people in charge.
Darnold. Never been so confident and pleased with a rookie QB. Just keep him upright and healthy and he'll do his thing How about a TE emerging as a legit receiving threat. Herndon
If we can start off 1-0 come Monday Night @ Detroit I will then fully expect a 3-0 record heading into our week 4 game @ Jacksonville. I can smell it in the air.
I don't want to sound like Debbie Downer but without a pass rush and a weak o-line, partnered with a rookie QB, I'm predicting 6-10.
I expect to pull a few upsets and lose some games v easier opponents. I expect to beat the cheatriots this year. Bowles only has one win v them gotta make it two this year. O was way too predictable in pre season. I expect some initiative play calling. not the same old. same old. 7-9 has a nice ring to it. Lam
1. I think what separates the great QB's from the rest is 3rd down. Can he consistently convert 3rd downs, even 3rd and longs? When the greats are (were) in 3rd down situations and they cocked their arm back to pass, there was a confidence that they were going to complete the pass. For the Jets, I haven't felt that 3rd down confidence since Vinnie played for us (and maybe Favre for 1/2 season.) However, from what I see in Darnold so far, I think he is going to revive it for the Jets. If he can do that, he'll be on his way to greatness. 2. I'm not worried about the OL. The greats played great no matter who was blocking for them. 3. As for Bowles, he must instill the discipline needed to be a playoff contender. Interceptions and fumbles are going to happen but keep the team focused, and above all, he must keep penalties to an absolute minimum and that includes the dumb kind such as "too many men", "unnecessary roughness" and "too much time." 4. I expect the defense to be good provided they can stay off the field for a reasonable amount of time. That, of course, will depend on Darnold's ability to move the ball.
Great points. Nicely said. I cant wait for this season to start. There is something about Sam that gives me confidence. It might be a rocky start, but he will soon become the undisputed leader of this team. Third down and red zone conversions will be his strength, as long as you keep the yardage manageable. The long bomb is not in his arsenal.....not yet. Discipline in the playing field will be key to this team development and a major area of focus for TB. The start of a new Jets era is only four days away. Let the journey begin.
