This was in 2000 "With two minutes to go, Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde scored a 6-yard touchdown pass to Curtis Martin. Martin followed with a two-point conversion run to narrow the score to 17-14. On the ensuing drive, Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott lost a fumble, and it was recovered by the Jets. With 52 seconds remaining, Curtis Martin executed a halfback option pass to Wayne Chrebet, to score an improbable game-winning touchdown, and a 21-17 final score." So logic dictates that Al Groh was twice the coach Rex is because the Jets overcame a bigger deficit with half as much time remaining and didnt need OT Not really, but hopefully you get the point
that was actually a very non SOJ game. how can you not remember that game. anyone that talks shit about SOJ should at least have had to live through Kotite.
#3 in pts allowed per game #6 in yds per game So the D has given up less pts than they had after 8 games last year. The team is 6-2 instead of 4-4 and in 1st place. 3-0 in the division, best conference record. Yep, lots to bitch about. No, I am not saying there isn't room for improvement but the sky is falling posts are ridiculous.
Lol,way too soon with this thread. But i have to admit,my fingers were on the SOJ button poised to type. I was going to start a thread called the neutering the NYJ
I love the SOJ posters on here. Holy fuck, were you all really writing us off with 8+ minutes left?? That a shitton of football left to play. Get off the fucking wagon and go root for the Giants.
Rex's press conferences are embarrassing by the way. He needs to be a little humble. He doesnt need to mention his brother kicking the Pats ass. He doesnt have to "apologize" for the win but he needs to to stop acting lik everything was great
Damn, people were jumping the Rex Ryan ship like crazy yesterday. He definitely does have to do something about the discipline on the team though, because these penalties, drops, and fumbles are drive killers. He needs to give them some tough love for awhile...
Rex Ryan is beginning to remind me of Baghdad Bob doing those press conferences in Iraq. He keeps this up and folks will start to tune him out or worse yet, laugh AT him instead of WITH him.
Especially if this team plans to make any noise in the playoffs. Teams like the Steelers & Patriots feed off of opponent penalties and poor clock management (not to mention just breathing on Brady and Big Ben gets you a personal foul in the playoffs, so guys like Bart Scott need to get their emotions under control.)
I figured we were done when we punted to the Lions with 6:45 left to go in the game. That's not SOJF, its just the percentages, coupled with the way they had been playing not just the past 3 quarters, but last week as well. Once we hit DK on that 3rd and 9 I felt confident we were going to win the game. Which looking back is pretty impressive considering we still had 40 yards to go to score, then we had to kick a fg as well... Then the whole OT thing. The way the culture surrounding this team has changed...
Let me sum up feelings on Sunday as I watched the game. It was the 4th quarter and we were down by 10 points. I was thinking to myself: "This is bad." However, as I sat there, I realized that this game would pretty much sum up the season. If we were an elite team that could actually win games, then we would come back, score twice, and either send the game to overtime or win the game. With all our talent on the team, there was no reason to not believe we were going to do it. The other scenario would be that we rolled over, fell flat, and lost to the Lions, which would mean this team would not be winners this season. Winners don't lose games like that. So essentially, I sat there and realized that what I was watching in the 4th quarter would be a metaphor for the Jets this season. I'm happy with the result. Were there times I yelled at the TV? Yep, absolutely. However I don't call the coach stupid, or call the team stupid. I yell "No" or "You gotta make that" from time to time. I realize that there's a reason Rex Ryan is a head coach in the NFL, and not me. For that matter, there's a reason he's the coach and no one on theGangGreen.com is. There's more going on than just what we see on the sideline or the press conferences.
After reading this thread, I have come to the conclusion that you guys really are pathetic. Wait until a game is over that is within reach before revamping the all around best Jet's team in decades.... Get a grip and stop embarrassing yourselves and the real Jet fans on these boards.
Push your chips to the middle of the table. I guaran-fucking-tee you as a fan of this team we will NOT lose to Cleveland. I promise you. I'll bet any man on this board.
anyone who was watching that debacle for the first 50 mins and wasn't irrtated is either lying or doesn't really care. During games people get heated and irrational, it's why I have stopped posting in game threads but I was so annoyed yesterday that i popped up late. The comeback was great but we are not going to get to where we should be going if we keep playing like this. There's too many penalties, to many awful coaching decisions, too many wasted TOs,... It needs to be cleaned up and its great we won not playing our best but we have to get alot better to be a truly great team like we are capable of becoming.
Really only one person in this thread should be criticizing his fellow fans, because he was the only one to jump in here and argue that it wasn't over PRIOR to the Jets mounting a comeback. It's easy to criticize now, but I'm sure some of you were at risk of a popped blood vessel during the game. I was calm, but I was also resigned to the fact that the Jets COULD come back with that offense, but may not do it. A strange feeling, especially for someone like me who generally gets too passionate during games. The past two weeks, I've felt like we were in games we could win, have been frustrated by our play throughout the games, but not infuriated. We're still a work in progress, and I don't feel that one or two ugly losses doom us at this point. Should it extend, I'd worry. However, we pulled yesterday's game out because we played well when we had to. It's something to build on.
