Hot routes can be short routes to avoid a blitz. And yes, curl routes can get yards after the catch. The objective of the play makes sense: get WR's open quick because a blitz is coming. With extra defenders coming on the blitz, the WR's can get YAC.

Time to fire Rex and Tannebaum then amirite? If they support Schottenheimer, they are also part of the problem.

Schotty has been worse than Hackett but I wouldn't call him the worst of all time.

Paul Hackett's offenses were undeniably conservative and mediocre but they at least did the thing they were trying to do, which was to get as short a first down as possible and do that 8 times on a drive. The man was all about control the clock and let the defense do it's thing and Rex Ryan would have loved him at OC as long as he also had Curtis Martin to keep things stable on offense.

Schotty's offenses just haven't worked except his first year on the Jets when he caught the NFL by surprise with all the misdirection and unmasking and had an unusually accurate QB if otherwise limited running the show for him and then when he had a healthy Brett Favre for 10 games ignoring a lot of the BS under cover of "not enough time to fully learn the offense."

It's amazing how much time Schotty has had at this point to not accomplish much.

The point is not about hot routes this and that - if what you say is true, then Jets had ALL 5 RECEIVERS running hot route - THIS is the crux of the problem. You are telling me that, this IS the correct progression, right?

*I don't even think it was hot route crap either. The way the play progressed tells me that it was the way the play was drawn up - all 5 receivers were looking at Sanchez after 4 yard run up field.*

My point about hot routes was in reference to 3rd down routes that stop short of the 1st down marker. Yes, the play design was for all 5 WR's to run the curl. Sanchez could of audibled out of it, but did not because the Patriots did a good job making it look like a blitz was coming. If this was just a regular play to be run when there's no blitz, I have a problem with it. But against the blitz, the play would work.

You are defending a play in which 5 receivers ran comebacks 3 yards short of the first down marker on 3rd down.

    Is this real life?

The defense has 11 players within 7 yards of the LOS

Teams play a hybrid 46 against us, it is impossible for Sanchez and the offense to be successful with this shitty playcalling and design

That's all that needs to be said.

It's a terrible play design, in any situation. He has to go.
