Why does the media treat the Jets win over the Patriots as if it were meaningless?

Same here. The Jets are 2-2 against the pats since Rexy took over. Yeah they got waxed the last time, and the pats have been on fire towards the end of the season.

So what. This is the NFL, both teams are in the same league, and the pats aren't the late 90's rams despite the hype. Any team in the AFC playoffs can go on the road and have a chance against the pats.

You're only as good as your last game. Week 2 is years away at this point. The Pats are playing great and are the current media darlings but it would only take one bad loss for them leap way off the bandwagon. One of Belichicks biggest challenges is to keep the young kids from believing the hype. He has a banner "Don't believe the hype" in the lockers just for that reason.

The Patriots have gotten significantly better since then...

We're still capable of beating them though.

Knocking out the Patriots would make this season a success, regardless of whether or not we win the Super Bowl. There, I said it.

First 8 games our opponents scored 23.5 ppg, our defense forced 13 turnovers, our QB threw 14 TD, 4 interceptions. Last 8 games our opponents scored 15.6 ppg, our defense forced 23 turnovers, our QB threw 22 TD, 0 interceptions.

Anyone who thinks the team is no different obviously hasn't watched the games, or is in some state of denial. Everyone expected this year to be one of transition for the patriots, as we had so many needs, preseason injuries, and young players. Instead, it turned out to be one of growth-on-the-job.

People like us because we are coming into the playoffs very hot... and whether you care to admit it or not, the latter part of a season is generally when a team has formed its identity. A teams most recent performances are obviously the most indicative measures of that teams current quality.

Sure we can be beat, but we are not exactly ripe for the picking. And any jets fan who wants "credit" for the victory can have it... but where exactly has credit ever gotten any team.

Eric Mangini put up posters in the Brown's locker room that said "Play Good." What happened?

If I were to tell you that the Jets 2010 regular season defensive stats were 19 ppg, and the Pats were at 19.6 ppg would you believe me?

because the pats are a different team now then early in the season. And because the Pats have basically bitchslapped the entire league the last few weeks.

By that logic, the Saints should have never won the Super Bowl last year since they lost their last 3 games of the regular season.

He got canned!! Mangini's biggest success seemed to be that he could upset the Patriots on occasion. With the Jets, with Cleveland but other that he seemed very average as a coach.

Sure. There are always the exceptions but wins early in the season really are deceptive. They really don't mean much at all by the end of the season.

Teams are usually very different by the end. The Patriots certainly are, both on defense and offense. The Jets aren't either. They've lost some key players, some players peak early. What happened to LT? He looked like a monster in game 2 but he's been relatively quiet lately.

To me, the Pats look every bit as unbeatable as they did in 2007 before the Giants figured out a way to beat them in the SB. They are a COMPLETELY different team than the one we beat in Week 2. As much as their Offense has been on fire, their Defense has looked like it could become elite in the very near future.

I still think that the team in the AFC that matches up best with them is the Ravens. I just can't see the Jets' Defense slowing them down enough with all the weapons they have. And our Offense is not good enough to win in a shootout.

I think the team that matches up best with them is actually the Colts, because they have the offense to put up points and I don't see any defense (certainly not the overrated Ravens) stopping Brady. Jets would be the 2nd best matchup in my opinion, because their offense is potentially pretty explosive too.

Unfortunately a decent segment of your fellow board members love to wear out the disrespect card.

They conveniently forget when the Jets were riding high mid-year and the so called "experts" were anointing them the SB favorites. These guys change their minds every other week. Go through thier "rankings" for the season and I'll bet at least 5 teams were SB favorites during the season.

None of it means anything. If the Jets go out and kick ass, they'll get their glory.

In fact, I think 2001 was even more enjoyable because all the "experts" were shitting on the Pats all through the playoffs and especially before the SB. All those assholes on "The Best Damn Sports Show" looked like fucking idiots after making fun of the Pats for a week before that SB!

I think the jets are the better matchup because the game is in Foxboro. If it were in the dome, Manning gets the edge, but we've seen over the years what happens to him and the Colts when they have to win a winter weather game in January....

Way to try and explain away the massive hole in your logic.

You: "You're only as good as your last game."

Here's another exception for you, the Colts lost 3 of their last 5 games going in to the 2006 playoffs, and then they won the Super Bowl. The Cardinals lost 4 of their last 6 games in 2008 and nearly won the Super Bowl. Here's another "exception" for you, the 2004 Eagles lost their last two games before the playoffs started and nearly won the Super Bowl.

Nothing from the regular season really matters except that your team wins enough to make it to the playoffs. How they win, when they win, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference.
