That'll kill his chances of getting back to the NFL a as a head coach and that'll be a massive paycut. _
Well $$ might not be an issue for him after getting that 4 mil. But unless he's gonna accept a position's coach job in the NFL he might not get many other offers. Im also not thinking he'll be coaching at a school thats insanely small but also not as big as a top program. Somewhere in the middle.
Yeah I guess the point is, folks thought he was going to be able to double dip this year and make $4mm twice for one job. He could have stayed and built his resume and made himself attractive for other HC jobs thereby perpetuating $4MM+ a year for a decade plus. Staying as an NFL HC could have grossed him $40-$50 million over the next 10 years. If he goes to a mid-major or small school, he's never getting back to the pros as an HC and he's never going to get that money back. He really miscalculated. That windfall we all though was astonishing may be the last really good money he makes. _
fuck me, give me 4 million and ill make it work for the rest of my life. he isnt a very good coach. and thats really the bottom line. personally id rather coach high school than in the nfl. and if you gave me 4 million and then i could make 75k a year being a gym coach and coaching high school football i would live happily and content.
Well you could also make $8MM if you just stayed on as HC. It's a dumb move either which way you look at it. If Marrone thought he was cruising into another NFL HC gig, he apparently has made a serious miscalculation of his worth. If he wanted cash, he could have worked for 2 years and doubled what he walked with, and if he was any kind of quality coach, would have brought a playoff berth to the Bills over the next two years, or at least in one of them, to justify his stance on wanting an extension. Marrone took his 9-7 record this season as a bargaining chip that was nullified by a savvy Billionaire.
You can't relate this to our lives--guys making $4 mill a year can't go back to making $75K as a gym teacher. The more you make, the more you spend. He probably thought he was going to make $4 million a year for the next 10 years. _
This. That $4 million is not a windfall. He fucked up his earning potential for the rest of his professional life. _
I am willing to bet the vast majority of the people that are behind Marrone for taking the easy cash have never earned that type of money, or even know someone who has.
Of course not. He's not moving into a 2 bedroom walkup or mother-daughter duplex. The guy has been living in certain style and will want to continue to do so. _
Have you? There are some great parts of the Buffalo area. There is no such thing as a bad city, just bad neighborhoods.......
No. It is a fact that Marrone asked for extensions for himself and staff. If he really wasn't "comfortable with the organization" as you say, then he wouldn't have asked for an extension to be here longer. He didnt just opt out. He asked for an extension first. The real reason he opted out was because he wasn't given the extension he desired. He attempted a power play. It backfired on him greatly and he left all those loyal assistants out to dry because of he couldnt control his ego with getting denied.
Beat me to it, Suicide and Buffalo and all... It doesn't even have garbage plates for the 20 year olds who think they're going to live forever.
It depends on what you mean by a lot of time? If you mean living there for the first 25+ years of my life, then living in NYC to pursue my dreams and returning 2-3 times a year for the last 21 years, then yeah, not a lot of time.......
I think he had an opportunity to walk into the jets HC job, but he just did not hit it off with Woodrow during his interview, as far as him getting another job, I don't think it's going to happen. As others have mentioned, his resume does not stand out as a hot HC candidate.
He wanted an extension from Pegula. And wanted some of Whaley's GM power. When Orton left, it was Marrone who contacted Pegula, not Whaley or Pres. Russ Brandon.
