I bet Woody tells Sanchez about being a team player and leader, and then asks for him to take less money so they can spend it elsewhere. Who knows, it might be better for Sanchez long term if he gives up some money and plays with a better team. The better the team does, fair or not, the better Mark looks and the longer he stays a starting QB. Put a crappy team around him, next year could be Mark's last season as a starter.
Calling him El Cid and saying he does a Mexican hat dance in the pocket is derogatory. I can quote your posts if you can't remember what you said in them. By the way, i don't plan on living past 50. I don't want to slowly lose my humanity.
Insider 2:24 PM ET New York Jets TopEmailComments 1 New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl and NFL meetings, but he also has some other meetings on his agenda. He plans to have dinner next week with quarterback Mark Sanchez and also plans to get together with coach Rex Ryan, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello. Johnson also said he tried to reach running back LaDainian Tomlinson after the running back made some critical comments about the Jets' locker room vibe during the offseason. "I called him but I didn't get him," Johnson said. "But LaDainian's amazing. I hold him in the highest [regard]. Everybody was frustrated at the end of the season. We won't hold him accountable for that." The owner may not hold him accountable, but there's a pretty good chance he won't bring LT2 back for another season due to his age and diminishing returns on the field. As for his quarterback, ESPN AFC East blogger James Walker ponders what the owner and Sanchez might discuss over dinner: - Tom Carpenter JAMES WALKER Reports: Jets owner to meet with Sanchez "The topic of discussion must center around the team's direction and fixing all that went wrong at the end of last season. The Jets imploded, losing three straight, and there was plenty of infighting along the way. Sanchez will be a hot topic this offseason. Is he the long-term solution in New York? Does Sanchez get too much blame? Will the team go after possible free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning? Johnson and Sanchez should clear the air with all of these questions next week."
Is it odd to anyone else that this dinner doesn't include Tanny? I always assumed that Tanny, Rex and Sanchez were connected at the hip. Maybe I'm looking too much into it.
Based on the way it reads it looks like Woody is having separate dinners with Sanchez and Rex. I'm betting that he already has dinner with his GM on a more frequent basis, however rarely if ever with his coach or QB, which is as it should be.
I'll bet he just asks him a bunch of creepy old man questions about the hot broads he's been seen with.
I don't understand why this is such an important dinner? Surely if woody wanted to talk to sanchez about salary cuts or Peyton manning, he could have done this maybe in more privacy.
Any lunch plans too? Doubt a dinner of any importance would leak to the media. Might as well have just called it a superbowl party at Woody's place.
