I actually like the Giants if they pony up and give us SP/RP Jon Sanchez C and Eliezer Alfonzo. But then again, I'll be good with 'Zona. They got some nice guys there. I can handle not getting Jon Sanchez when we can still get Gonzo.

On the RJ trade front, the names of the players are locked in as far as the trade goes, now it's a matter of the two sides deciding how much money the Yankees are sending, and then RJ and Arizona coming to terms on a contract.

It sounds like this is a good deal for the Yankees. The word on Thursday was that it was a great deal (meaning Conor Jackson was in it), then yesterday the sources said it was an "okay deal", but today they are saying again that it is a good deal for the Yankees. They all seem to think that Conor Jackson and two pitching prospects (two of Nippert, Owings, Medders, Oehlendorf) are coming to the Yankees, and the Yankees will be including a mid-level prospect, and about $6M in salary. This is all just "advanced" speculation though, the exact names haven't been leaked yet.

Wow, I can't believe we could get Conor Jackson in a trade for Randy Johnson. At this point I would almost be willing to give up Randy Johnson without getting a thing

Sounds like if the Yankees throw in Proctor (maybe Melky, although Arizona has a ton of OFers), they would get Jackson.

I find that hard to believe. I don't think Cashman is a dumb man, and if the only thing keeping Conor Jackson out of the deal is Cashman's unwillingness to include Proctor in the deal, it says infact that he is a dumb GM, and that he should be fired immediately.

The fact that he is this close to trading RJ for at least 3 very good prospects, with or without Jackson says infact that he is a damn good GM and should get an extension.

I think it has a lot more to do with the Arizona GM being horrible.

If that is the case then more props to Cashman for taking advantage of him before other gm's do.

Wasn't Byrnes working for the Red Sox when Theo traded for Schilling?

Which is why I refuse to believe Jackson is on the table at all. I don't think Cashman is stupid.

    Nice!
The Diamondbacks have reportedly requested a 72-hour window in order to negotiate an extension with Randy Johnson.

The request could be granted before the end of the day. If true, this should mean the players involved in the Johnson trade have been agreed to. The East Valley Tribune reported Sunday that the Yankees could get two players from a group of four: Brandon Medders, Dustin Nippert, Ross Ohlendorf and Micah Owings. Jan. 2 - 12:07 pm et

We're dumping Randy, and still keeping Proctor. If they send us a used stamp in return, I'll be happy.

So anyone know how much we have to kick in yet?

As long as Arizona is taking on most of the salary, that's fine. Obviously Jackson was not on the table, or Melky/Proctor would be driven to the airport by Cashman himself.

Wait, someone not only wants to trade for Randy, but sign him to an extension as well?

D'Backs scout site reports the other player in the deal might be 1B/DH Chris Carter. If so, that would make it a much better deal. He's not on Jackson's level, but he's a very good prospect none the less.
