Don't be so sure about that.

Plus, I wouldn't mind if he was suspended.

Another series win no matter what happens tomorrow..that's all we need to keep doing. Too bad Detroit won after TB tied it up.

You gotta pitch Farnsworth tonight. Seven run lead, on the road, real chance of violence. If not now, when?

solid debut by Joba Chamberlain. He showed an explosive fastball and an amazing slider.

It's pretty amazing how even in what appears to be a pretty quiet game when you look up all of a sudden you have scored 9 runs and you try and remember how you did that.

I would love our lead to get down to 3 or 4 games and then see how Boston reacts. We haven't put any pressure on them all year yet.

I agree with the assessments of Toronto being Bush League. When they missed Alex yesterday, it was their problem. They tried, they missed. It should have been over.

I'll bet Towers was shitting his pants when he realized ARod wasn't the pussy people seem to think he is. That shit when he was on first could have exploded. I'm glad ARod's got the composure to not have gone after him and get suspended.

Stairs is lucky Duncan didn't throw him into next week. My wife was yelling at Stairs, saying "Are you CRAZY? LOOK at him! He'll KILL you!"
    ----------------------

No offense to the Damon fans, but the guy is a defensive liability. The one over his head he just flat out LOST. Kay was sitting there DESPERATELY trying to say he was attempting to deek the baserunners. Ken Singleton was just like "No."

That wasn't the only ball he misplayed though. There was one earlier he overran, and had to extend his arm backward, and the wrong way, just to catch it.

He's okay as a fill-in guy, but it's really sad when I'm watching him and saying "Matsui could have made that play..."
    ----------------------------

Clemens was great last night. I don't think that was even on purpose. If you saw what he said to the ump he said "Why would I throw at him? I'm throwing a TWO HITTER."

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. If he just lost the pitch, that's fine. If he did it on purpose, good. Toronto had it coming.
    -----------------------

I'm just glad McDonald didn't douche out on Duncan. That had to be one of funniest plays I've ever seen. He slid into Mac so hard it knocked his glove off!
    -----------------------

Chamberlain was something else. Consistent upper 90s, and his stuff can dance! Him, Hughes, and Wang are going to be some 1-2-3 for a LONG time.
    -----------------------

How about we send Browers back and bring Bruney back up. This dude blows chunks. No wonder he's been with ELEVEN different ML clubs is his "career."

I was hoping for Farnsworth late in the game, we knew he can handle himselfon the mound in a fight and maybe something like that could have won over his teammates and brought back some confidence to his game. We have another game today.

It's all on the setup guys, we have enough SP, we have enough bats and we have Mo. We can have a great October if the setup guys do their jobs.

Cleveland has gone to a 4 man rotation. We miss Sabathia but get Carmona and Byrd who are just as tough. It will be up to Hughes and Mussina to keep us in those games.

Damon is fine in LF despite the poor play last night and compared to Matsui he looks like a Gold Glover out there.

Damon was always a poor fielder but had the speed to overcome his mistakes.
Now that his legs are going, the speed is to and he recover in time to make the plays.

Cleveland and Detroit both win so we are 1/2 game behind Detroit for the wild card.

Damon's speed is still there. Now, at least. Earlier in the year, with the leg cramps, it wasn't... but he looks to be running just fine now.

I think a lot of what we're seeing is an adjustment to left field. As simple as the game might be, it's still a very physically intuitive game. Playing (almost nothing but) CF for years means that you're going to take a while to adjust to balls that come off the bat differently. Even if he were in LF every night, I'd expect that it would take at least a month before he was reasonably comfortable and able to get good jumps on most balls.

Just as an example of what I'm talking about... did anyone ever see that experiment they did with a college QB and a visor that shifted his field of view? If not, it's basically as follows: a QB can lead a receiver... we all know that. They put a visor on this guy so everything was off by a few degrees. His first throws were six to seven feet behind the receiver. It took him about a dozen throws, but after that, he was able to compensate for the shift, and started hitting the guy.

So then they took the visor off. Even though he knew the sensory input he was getting now was "back to normal," his first few throws were six to seven feet in front of the receiver (as his hand-eye coordination was still compensating for the shift). Again, it took about a dozen throws for him to adjust.

I think what we're seeing from Damon in LF is more similar to that experiment than it is to a decline in skills/speed.

I'll buy that for last nights' play. It was hit directly at him but there is no excuse at all for Monday's.

bad news..Arod out tonight because of that hbp last night..not good when we have to face Halladay to begin with..we shouldn't leave town without really putting a hurt on somebody on that team..hopefully Stairs plays.
