I remember a few years ago Pujols was hit in his back with a big, slow curveball, and he felt it was intentional. He got into a scuffle with the catcher, and if my memory serves me correctly he even jabbed the guy in the face and wasn't even thrown out for it lol. I may be wrong about that last bit, but I do remember it was a slow curve and he got pissed. Anyway it was definitely odd that Bay got hit, but at the end of the day I don't think it was intentional.
Actually, that was an example of a player thinking it was intentional (in the heat of the moment), not a fan... although I suppose I didn't explicitly exclude players from what I had heard (although I thought it was well implied). Regardless, that's the first situation I've heard of involving a curve on a HBP... still think it's rare enough that you don't expect one to be on purpose, ever.
I can't remember the specifics but more than once on this board people have complained about a Red Sox pitcher hitting a Yankee batter with a curve intentionally. When it's brought up that it makes no sense to do so, that gets ignored. There are quite a few fans here who I am convinced think every HBP is intentional, regardless of the circumstances.
I didn't know before the series man. I thought I was gonna be at that chicken stand on the promenade im usually at, but when i got in they told me to go to the beer one.
^^^Lmao, that's gold. Nothing is definitely the best answer out of all those choices, but regardless Manuel still needs to be fucking fired.
I hear you, It is probably just me because I just do not trust the Yankees or their fans at all. It comes from a lifetime of having to deal with them. After the Dirty Roger situation they used up all their "benefit of the doubts" with me. As with any dedicated fan I probably think I am fairer than I am when it comes to judging plays on the field when my Mets are involved. But it is fishy that he only had a problem controlling his curve against the guy who just hit two homers.
Yeah, I guess I'm just not seeing the connection between the attitude of the fans and the intentions of the players on the field.
You missed my point, My point is that Bay just hit two homers then happens to be the guy at the plate when a curve gets away. that is all it was for the players on the field. The part about the fans is seporate. Basically since the Dirty Roger situation I do not take a yankee fans opinion on a situation at face value because they defended Roger in 2000 and if they can't see that as intentional and dirty they will never see anything a yankee does as dirty.
Yikes. Talk about holding a grudge. What if a Yankee fan thought it was intentional and dirty, but just didn't care because Piazza was a whiny pole smoker?
I don't care if it was intentional although it was weird that the one that got away was the guy hit 2 HRs and had I think 7 straight hits in the series. I don't know if it was on purpose or not but I think the Mets don't care, they won the game and will now follow up a great series against one hated rival and make it all for not against the other hated rival.
