My heart says the Phillies but my head has me pretty convinced there's no way the Yankees don't win this. Pedro in game 2? Really? I love the guy and everything, but that seems like a bad idea to have him pitch in Yankee Stadium.
"IT'S A MIRACLE! A MIRACLE, I TELLS YA!" Amazing, the sun just came out in Queens. Looks like there will be baseball tonight!
The Yankee Stadium crowd can get Martinez pumped up. Besides, Hamels is much better in Citizens Bank Park, at least this year. home - 7-5, 3.76 era; away - 3-6, 4.99 era.
I'm not even sure what I am trying to find in that. I got as far as him saying that when a player moves from the AL to the NL, he scores more runs in the NL, thus that means the AL is better? huh? wouldn't that mean he is driven in more by his NL teammates, and less my his AL teammates, which would mean the NL is better offensively in driving runners in? conversely, he claims batters that move from the NL to the AL score less runs, meaning the AL batters are worse at driving them in. How do you then interpret that data and conclude the AL is better offensively? I'll admit I didn't get to the pitching part, but his conclusion seems flawed. or am I misunderstanding his argument? ultimately, the point is that the Phils aren't powerful offensive team because the NL maybe isn't. the Phils offensive stats are generated by facing NL pitching, not NL hitting, and they aren't a powerful team simply in comparison.
It's not runs scored. It's runs created, based on a linear weights ratio. Without getting into the nuts and bolts of it (it's pretty straightforward, but I gotta run), it's just a metric that gives you a pretty good picture of how productive an offensive player is. If the same player is able to create more runs moving from the AL to the NL, that would indicate that the pitching in the NL is of a lesser quality. And if the same player creates fewer runs moving to the AL from the NL, that indicates the pitching in the AL is stronger.
I don't know if I heard him right, but did he say Zimmer, or Karim Garcia, called out his mom during the '04 ALCS!? He also said he was the most influential player that ever played in Yankee Stadium. (A few reporters laughed). Game 2 should be fun...
you have to assume the Phillies are hinging the series on winning game 1, essentially throwing away game 2, and expecting Hamels to be brilliant in game 3.
Tossing Zimmer was more memorable, but if only for the unintentional comedy factor Martinez's "Who? Who are you Karim Garcia?" speech is still my favorite Pedro moment of all-time.
okay so its raining like a motherfuck up here, whats it like in NYC? Is this game getting played or what? I have a sixer of Newkies and I hate to waste them if I'm going to be expected to be at work and in good shape tomorrow morning, but I need to start getting loose.
