Howard missed the plate, but at that point, it didn't really matter because the out in that situation is more about the catcher holding onto the ball. Oh well...
You know though, I'm not sure the ump would have called him safe had CC tagged him, rather than throw to second. The ump hesitantly called safe when CC threw it. Anyway, that was on Posada for being a complete failure of a defensive catcher on that play.
I saw the same exact thing. Once CC throws down to second, he gave a reluctant safe call. And he was kinda looking at CC when he picked up the ball waiting to see if he would tag him....
