Gates is his cousin while Bernard Scott, formerly of the Bengals and last year, the Ravens, is his brother. Richardson is definitely a nice pick-up. He has pretty decent speed but has even better game speed. Very impressive jump cut ability and has the open field moves to make a lot of defenders miss and look off balance/silly doing so. He had a productive rookie season averaging about 4.5 yards per carry or more if I'm not mistaken but last year there was a significant drop off due to a myriad of problems with the entire offense. Not nearly as physical or strong a runner as Powell, doesn't break too many tackles and still needs work as a pass blocker. With Johnson, Ivory, Powell and Richardson, we have a very nice, well rounded backfield.
I love the pickup. I'd be shocked if the Jets go into the season with less then 4 RB's. Obviously Johnson and Ivory are here to stay and Powell brings a whole other element with his pass catching and pass protection. Richardson may not get many carries but is awesome for depth and a very good insurance policy since its virtually certain that at least one of the top 3 RB's will get dinged up at some point during the year.
